Did the car's transmission actually refuse to shift into neutral?

The guy was "scared of being rear ended" on the highway if he had shut off his engine...

Situation seems fishy to me... seems like he's just trying to make some money out of it by suing Toyota.

he should've put his hazard lights on if he was scared of getting rear ended before even attempting to shut off his engine or put it in neutral which wasn't even the case, i call bullshit.

I'd rather get rear ended as my car slows down (shutting off engine) than rear ending someone at 94MPH.

Still think its America's way of getting Toyota out of the market =T

one of the Comments I read on Jalopnik. Sorta true.

"Hey, how come unintended acceleration only ever happens in the US?"

Unintended acceleration happens all over the world. Don't know why people think it's a US only issue. That's about as stupid as saying only the US has car accidents.

Don't know what kind of money he's going to get out of this. No injuries to anyone, no accident, minor brake repair bill for his car. Wondering why people think he's going to file a lawsuit and try to get a bunch of money when nothing happened.

Unless he's an attention whore.

turning off ur car while in motion makes the airbags go off, its a built in safety feature.

I don't know about newer cars, but at least in my 94 Integra, if your car is turned off, the brake pedal won't depress after you step on it a couple of times (not that you'll be releasing your foot off the brake pedal after you stepped on it in that kind of situation).

I guess he shouldn't have turned off his car then. Going over 90, then getting smacked in the face by his airbags wouldn't have resulted well.
