^^^^what it sounds like (from the blogs) is its based on your phones embedded info as long as its got the UK info in it you can download from the music store (people travelling out of the UK aren't blocked from getting music while on holiday)

StylinRed 10-21-2010 05:54 PM

So today we have Confirmation that updates for Symbian that come in the future for say Symbian^4 or Symbian^5 will be available for Symbian^3 phones etc

this is because of the QT tools which will allow cross platform compatability (symbian^3,4,5,etc, & meego)

Quote:

Even more importantly, you can buy a Nokia smartphone confident that any improvements introduced later to the Symbian platform, such as the user interface, can be made available to download on your device as well. No need to wait for Symbian^4 — the improvements we were planning for Symbian^4 will be introduced as and when they become available. In fact, we will no longer be talking about Symbian^3 or Symbian^4 at all – it will be one constantly evolving and constantly improving platform.
here's a video that covers a snippet of the press release

Old news, but I don't believe this has been brought up in the thread.
Rogers plans to carry the N8 some time this year.

The Chengman 10-26-2010 01:08 AM

man, nokia has to update their os. Still the same symbian. I have a nokia e72 but im geting tired of it

crazyazn 10-26-2010 01:18 AM

So is Symbian^3 worth getting into now? Since it will be upgradeable like Android...

StylinRed 10-26-2010 10:14 AM

why wouldnt it be worth getting?

the fact that its upgradeable makes it pointless to hold out, imo

the only issues people have had with it right now is the built-in browser and the lack of pinch-2-zoom in ovi maps and the lack of qwerty portrait (which is possible; like in ovi maps but just wasn't implemented its expected to be offered in the 1st firmware update though)

both the browser and ovi maps are already well on their way out of the beta stages (by the time you can get an n8 in your hands the new browser and ovi maps will likely be out) or you could just use Opera or download the betas

also when your order arrives from Newegg.ca i would really like to see some pics of it, thanks!

StylinRed 10-27-2010 08:48 PM

^^ yes north american units are manufactured in nokias own plant in china

here's a short filmed with the N8 with Dev Patel and Pamela Anderson appears in it

and there's a scene with a new lotus in it

bigzz786786 10-27-2010 09:13 PM

this is making me want it more and more!

i'll be buying it in a month when all the proper updates come out

EDIT: nvm found the source

but the problem is, rogers will add there logo on EVERYTHING and you need a data plan, i would just buy it aftermarket

hongy 10-27-2010 09:17 PM

Coming out to rogers.

bigzz786786 10-27-2010 09:17 PM

^when and how do you know?

StylinRed 10-27-2010 09:33 PM

For those who have seen videos of the N8 homescreen and complained about "lag" when switching between homescreens (its not lag but n8 did it on purpose as a feature apparently)

anyway someone sent a video to the mynokiablog website to showcase the new N8 firmware that he is testing out and Nokia removed that pause since they've been getting so much flack for it

also it shows the updated Browser that is still being worked on (so dont be concerned with any errors u see) and supposedly portrait qwerty has been added as an option according to the guy who made the video (although not shown in the video)

edit: the browser update is actually firmware 2.2 supposedly the first firmware release will be 12 bug fixes/patches and this will be the one after

yeah i just heard that its coming out to Rogers in November

heard it thru the grapevine over at a nokia blog

the video above showing some of the firmware updates has been removed by Nokia btw

but here's a pic of Portrait Qwerty on the N8 (not sure if this is a mod someone made or a part of the next firmware update as it comes from a different source) as you can see this seems to be a chinese kb too

bigzz786786 11-05-2010 09:30 AM

i spoke to a few rogers wireless stores, they all confirm that the Nokia N8 will be available at rogers within the month

one rogers location in aberdeen mall already ordered the phone and is expected to arrive in 2 weeks

also, for those that are wondering about branding, they say that it wont have the "rogers' logo on the phone, as all of there Nokia phones and Apple phones are never branded to say "rogers"

StylinRed 11-05-2010 09:50 AM

if they have the Blue one then im not going to wait for a MIF one

Alphamale 11-05-2010 10:29 AM

http://www.bgr.com/2010/11/05/rogers...dmap-revealed/

N8 for $80 on Contract!

StylinRed 11-05-2010 01:08 PM

and only $450 with no contract? awesome i hope they have the blue one

bigzz786786 11-05-2010 04:13 PM

^i think it might be a type-o, it sounds way too cheap

not even the nokia website is charging that much, how is it that rogers can? unless they remove certain features which they wont

Alphamale 11-05-2010 04:34 PM

^What the hell are you talking about?

bigzz786786 11-05-2010 05:11 PM

^the nokiausa.com is 549, nokiauk is 429 british pounds and so on and so on

why is it that the actual nokia sites are selling it for a minimum of 549 US and rogers will sell it for 100 dollars cheaper? even the fact that our dollar isnt higher then the US? on top of that its cheaper then the new blackberrys even with a plan it almost 100 dollars cheaper then the blackberrys

and even more, rogers will be selling it cheaper then ANY aftermarket phone company in BC?

don't get me wrong tho, i certainly hope that they sell it that cheap, but a side of me is saying that its too good to be true

Tim Budong 11-05-2010 08:17 PM

nokiaUSa is unlocked
rogers is locked.

aside from that, Rogers also has their own stuff on their phones. any partnerships means they can preload someone else's app for a charge and be able to charge cheaper

bigzz786786 11-05-2010 10:07 PM

^so do you think that rogers will remove ovi maps and ovi store?
Posted via RS Mobile

Tim Budong 11-05-2010 10:33 PM

no ovi maps and ovi store will come preloaded
its the other stuff, like specific to the canadian market might be pre loaded onto the phone
