^oh icicic, so everything that originally comes with the phone will still be there, but there will be some added things specified for canadians

thats more like a bonus right? so that would make it more convenient then to buy it elsewhere, that is IF your with rogers

why is it that the actual nokia sites are selling it for a minimum of 549 US and rogers will sell it for 100 dollars cheaper? even the fact that our dollar isnt higher then the US? on top of that its cheaper then the new blackberrys even with a plan it almost 100 dollars cheaper then the blackberrys

and even more, rogers will be selling it cheaper then ANY aftermarket phone company in BC?

don't get me wrong tho, i certainly hope that they sell it that cheap, but a side of me is saying that its too good to be true

you can get the phone from the shops i've linked earlier in the thread for far less than what Nokia wants... and Amazon will start lowering their price etc

and if you were in the UK you could get the phone from Tesco for even less! (300) etc etc

its just like how The Sony Store charges MSRP for their tvs while stores like Futureshop Bestbuy ask for less

^ah icic, thanks for the info!

way2quik 11-07-2010 08:24 AM

typing with the N8 right now. Neat device. However as most has said on hofo the stock web browser is bad. Opera mini is perfect as Opera Link also sync with Opera on my desktop

^nice! where did you get yours from? there is still gonna be constant updates up until symbian 5 is out, the first few updates will be to improve the web browser and messaging

StylinRed 11-08-2010 12:12 AM

here's a new video of the firmware testing for the n8

they cut out the delay when swiping the homescreen and they added portrait qwerty (although the one shown is a scandinavian keyboard so there are extra keys making it cramped) the last video i uploaded was on youtube and nokia had it removed this ones on vimeo

also its still a prototype firmware so any performance issues should be dismissed

bigzz786786 11-09-2010 07:52 PM

yeah its on there website but when you click it there is an error

StylinRed 11-09-2010 07:55 PM

^^^^ yeah bloody technical difficulties -_- ah they only have the silver one; think i might cave though

bigzz786786 11-09-2010 08:35 PM

i think they have grey and silver, it only shows a picture of the silver so there could be a colour option when you click on the icon, but we won't know till they fix it

fuuuu!

bigzz786786 11-14-2010 05:37 PM

does anyone know if rogers nokia n8 will be carrier code specific? meaning u can't update the phone's firmware?

if it is, can you unlock the rogers nokia n8 to update it?

StylinRed 11-14-2010 11:01 PM

supposedly with Symbian you can just run Nokias firmware and it will remove any branding or locking

i read that off of Mynokiablog.com from one of the admins

bigzz786786 11-17-2010 12:12 PM

just updating this thread

nokia n8 is now fully available on the rogers website

also sim-mobile.co.uk has the unlock codes. to unlock your N8 :)

go to the link for the in depth reporting

N8 is good all around, wish they gave it the Clear Black Display though but i guess they couldnt get the screen out in time for its release

bigzz786786 11-30-2010 06:33 AM

received my phone from rogers a couple days ago, its still wrapped, got midterms today and tomorrow, plus im waiting for my case and screen protector from e-bay before i open it

i'll do a review and compare it's OS and features to the iphone 4, samsung i900 omnia(windows mobile), and my friends galaxy s and possibly my other friends bb torch (just comparing OS's)

i'll also take my own picture review between the nokia n8, canon xsi, and a panasonic 12mp point and shoot

cctw 12-01-2010 01:56 PM

damn...now i'm considering this phone..cos its hella cheap!..craigslist ppl selling for $320!

Klutch 12-02-2010 03:59 PM

just bought it...will check it out when i receive itt ;)

StylinRed 12-03-2010 03:37 PM

i ordered mine too (couldnt wait for a blue one) from the UK

Besides you can already buy different Coloured Housings on ebay (just not the blue or orange ones yet)

anyhow GSMArena is doing a 720p video test with a bunch of phones including the N8

The test isn't so great some of the phones seem a bit blurry maybe smeared from greasy fingers or something

Anyhow here it is on their youtube page

http://www.youtube.com/user/gsmarena07

N8 seems to stand out overall with PQ and AQ (half way through the video they switch it to Low Light)

way2quik 12-03-2010 11:04 PM

When I first bought the K850i, I thought the camera was awesome in daylight. Now with the N8, I can shoot in both daylight and low lighting. I haven't fully tested video recording and playing it on the TV, but I'm sure the tests out there on the net are tweaked in a way to provide the best video recording possible.

StylinRed 12-04-2010 09:43 AM

i think most of the tests we've seen (at least early on) state the settings are just set to Auto

Klutch 12-04-2010 02:24 PM

this is a solid phone...having one problem tho, phone keeps crashing once in a while usually when im doing something, it freezes then turns off and turns on again...

way2quik 12-04-2010 03:08 PM

There a known bug when connecting to wifi, the connection will go on and off, on and off, and the phone will freeze. I have yet to replicate that being on 3G.
