hmm, well my data plan doesnt start until the 10th so i might just wait until then see if it keeps doing it, it did it twice today already, might just get them to send me a new one? anyword on when a new firmware is gonna get released? |
1st quarter next year, lol. |
no theres going to be a firmware at christmas a mini-firmware thing |
^Are you sure? Nokia has always been relatively shitty in keeping their promises for release dates of firmware/products, particularly for the NA crowd (despite their recent promises to amend it). |
well im not positive but its coming from the guy who's been leaking the firmware videos (he's a beta? tester for the firmware) and he says there's going to be a lil something by the end of this month not everything that was promised in the 1st firmware but some improvements |
^+1 there will be a series of mini firmwares to iron out certain minor kinks, prior to the 1st big firmware coming next year i also spoke to the rogers technical support department, and they assured me that you can get firmware updates from nokia without de-branding or unlocking the phone |
for those that have the N8 or soon to get one There is a Symbian^3 Youtube Application just released http://mynokiablog.files.wordpress.c.../scr000047.jpg to download it u'll have to browse m.google.com and click on the youtube icon to download (through your N8s native browser not opera or anything) edit: its not a true SYMBIAN^3 app just a lil improved |
so my N8 is "out for delivery" since 12:11pm today can't wait to get it :D think Im going to sign up with WIND anyhow SKYPE is now available for the N8 but they still havent added video calling yet edit: rofl N8 came while i was typing this message The Black N8 actually looks Really awesome in Person way better than how the pictures represent it edit: short overview after playing with it for all these hours First things first the phone is awesome the OS is very quick not laggy as feared (and we dont even have the mini-firmwares yet) I love the phone im very happy with it Don't feel that the Cons i list below are a major issue just some minor 1 time qwirks i found When i first turned the phone on it didnt run the Ovi login as has been reviewed the N8 runs this whenever you turn it on the OVI store works great however when you download an app and continue on browsing it lags when it tries to install the app that just downloaded (i think this is an OVI App problem though rather than the phones) i ran the youtube app that was preinstalled and it crashed my phone held down the power button but it didnt do anything! and its a pain to pull the battery out but after about 1min it turned itself off and when i turned the phone on again this time around it ran the OVI login as reviewed (but when clicking activate it didnt do anything i guess because ive already been into the OVI store) edit: and BBC iPlayer doesn't work outside the UK -_- god i h8 these copyrights issues I was hoping to watch some UK tv shows off my phone -_- what about UK residents who go traveling geeez a few of the APPS dont have an option to use WLAN and they seem to demand a Data connection -_- wtf edit: theres like builtin win7 support/compatibility so you get a nice Windows Devices Menu |
China Nokia N8 Clone with a Dual Core cpu! http://mynokiablog.files.wordpress.c...4a5219d569.jpg Quote:
http://mynokiablog.files.wordpress.c...sbp9_4_500.jpg Camera sample http://mynokiablog.files.wordpress.c...7-09-50-20.jpg http://mynokiablog.files.wordpress.c...a66407e010.jpg for more info http://mynokiablog.com/2010/12/12/wo...ry-china-clone playing with my n8 As for my N8 I love the online radio apps available for this they're great and take up tons of time as for the Battery life with the way i've been using it; Wi-Fi intensive (with wifi settings turned to high) and gaming and videos I have to charge the phone once a day (this is with hours and hours of use) I didn't know about this before but there's a light sensor on the front of the phone that adjusts the screens brightness depending on how bright/dark the room is (like a TV) again I didn't know about it so it was pretty neat to see. I've had a couple apps crash on me but they seem to be a problem with the apps themselves instead of the phone. I have had the music player mess up once when showing the album covers it would render them incorrectly (instead of taking up the whole screen it would just take up half of it or less) exiting and re-entering fixes it. Problem with the Camera lens (im guessing) when i have the camera tilted at a the slightest upward angle i'll get glare in my photos. I have to either take photos straight on, at a downward angle or facing directly upwards for there to be no glare (maybe i need to clean it? i dunno i tried rubbing it down with my shirt but still have the issue) |
Are you able to get Here and Now working? The app is always "Location not detected" or "this service is temporarily unavailable due to technical difficulties". |
havent updated this in awhile sorry a little gripe i have with the phones shell is the "chrome" surround on the screen chips easily i've got 2 little scratches already -_- Way2Quick here&now doesn't work for me either a couple pics i took i was just playing with my Nokia N8 i dont know how to play with the settings really but i took a shot, i like how they look though this was a 9mpx shot i "auto-coloured" it in PS (i had the colour set to vivid on the phone and i just didnt like the red sheen) http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/1594/18122010017.jpg this was a 12mpx shot i didnt do anything to it except the resize http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/9769/27122010075.jpg |
Media Centre App for the N8 (well all Symbian^3 phones) Hook your phone up to your TV and this app auto loads giving you a Media Centre UI your phone becomes a remote but since you're connected by HDMI you might have some issues with that however you can connect a Bluetooth remote (nokia is advertising the WII mote) and use that as you're controller http://mynokiablog.com/wp-content/up...EN-600x326.png Get it here http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-big-screen I've tried it, it works great it IS in Beta stages at the moment (hence having to get it at beta labs) but i haven't had any issues so far A Must Have |
wow that looks cool ^ i will have to try it outt... what are your guy's favourite apps so far? |
id have to say Big Screen (the media centre i posted above) is my fav then Mobbler and NRJ Finland/Norway even Absolute Radio (Im a nut for internet radio) Pixelpipe, Panorama (i like panoman from my n95 but it doesnt seem to work anymore keeps asking me to register) i kind of got a tonnne of apps and havent really used them like SPBtv which lets u watch a bunch of tv channels from around the world but the video quality isnt so hot (doesnt take up the full screen); the pre-installed video apps like Nat Geo CNN etc are better but not much variety (which spb tv offers) edit oh i just played with spbtv u can fill the screen but its just a stretch; video bitrate is 348kbps so think non-hd youtube (there's like 1-5 channels from many countries; China, Japan, Korea, Turkey, Spain, Germany, etc etc etc; even MTV1 & 2 from like hungary) edit2 just found out its an s60 5th edition app no wonder its not as polished as i was expecting for a sym^3 app hopefully they'll update soon |
So the housings were available to order in Germany for a little while now and not all the colours nor were the top and bottom caps available from the same seller Anyhow i just searched ebay.com to see if there would be any housings there and sure enough sellers form Hong Kong and China finally have the housings for sale (in full) including the Orange and Blue ones http://i.ebayimg.com/02/!CBU,WRwBWk~...gioT!~~_12.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/14/!CBUZN2w!2k~...ih6+!~~_12.JPG click the images to link to the ebay sale the green and silver and black are also available anyhow i just bought the blue and orange ones and we'll see how things turn out when they get here EDIT: ITS NOT OEM |
|
wow really nice pics.....got my replacement N8 couple days ago, hasnt crashed on me yet...seems much better |
Quote:
so i received these today.... they're quite good almost identical to OEM however the biggest fault it has is also a product killer the cover for the camera lens isn't glass not even a high quality plastic its like really thin and crappy plastic a slight rub with the finger nail leaves a tonne of scratches that cant be rubbed out and its actually a bit of a hassle to change the housing so it seems even more pointless to be changing the housing for fun when using a crappy product aside from that camera lens plastic though its a pretty solid replica id almost almost say perfect (Nokia Nseries sticker on the rear isnt accurate; plastic doors/covers are a bit cheap, etc) cant say for certain on fitment either as id have to switch housings also many pieces need to be replaced when switching housings according to nokias service manual (screws, tape, gaskets) |
would you guys recommend this phone vs the iphone 4? what are the main differences? does this phone have as many apps etc? |
^to keep it simple if you like tons of apps and a smooth touch interface the iphone4 is for you if you like a good solid camera that is comparable to a typical point and shoot and don't mind some lag, then the n8 is for you keep in mind the iphone 4 updates are all little unnoticable things, and the n8 is expected to have huge improvements once the updates are available also the internet browser for the iphone is wayyyyyy better, but again, one of the big updates is expected to greatly improve the browser of the n8 i would wait for the big updates on the n8 before you make any decision, plus the iphone 5 will eventually come out |
Yeah. The N8 web browser does suck. lol But I love the phone. It meets my needs. Also, the iPhone 4 has Facetime. So if you have any buddies also with a iPhone 4, that's also one advantage over the N8, since Skype does not have the video calling function. |
you can download a free 3rd party app called fring both the iphone and nokia n8 has this app, i video called my gf through wifi she has the iphone 4 i have the n8 |
honestly id recommend the n8 as it is now over any other phone :P that's why i bought it more fetures the cameras photo quality compares to dslr photos (sans dslr features; look at the N8 vs dslr review i posted in this thread) if you dont like the built in browser there's opera there's the mass update expected for the 1st quarter (pr 2.0), supposedly by the end of February, and the stability firmware update thats already available online (1.1) video calling has loooong been available just read through the thread :) My only misgivings with the phone is that i cant seem to get MKV files to play (even though everyone else is able to) and my QWERTY it like wont switch from Portrait to Landscape i should say it does switch perfectly normally most of the time but at times it takes forever (yet every other instance sans qwerty it switches between portrait and landscape faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssst) i would like more customization options, there are quite a few sym^3 centric customizations but naturally it will take some time before there are more customizations for previous versions of symbian works but im not satisfied with them Overall im insanely satisfied with the phone insanely and after you consider the price its out of this world $429CAD @ newegg.ca (i paid $570ish, after taxes duties shipping, for mine from the UK and i am still satisfied) |
the portrait qwerty that i showed pages/months ago has been refreshed http://mynokiablog.com/wp-content/up...01/29o0ao2.png (its in caps lock mode so you dont see the period/comma) and screenshot of the new browser http://mynokiablog.com/wp-content/up...dqn7kp.jpg.png there's also a video demoing the new browser that's a couple months old (2mnths) Supposedly the Firmware release schedule is so (according to GSM Arena) Jan 24th PR 1.1 (highly likely since you can already download it from unofficial nokia sites) Feb 15th PR 2.0 Summer PR 3.0 |
I actually have no problems with MKV playback except I am unable to skip or FFW the clip for certain videos. |
