...Nokia seems set to officially unveil its first Symbian^3-based mobile phone by the middle of the next month, right before the company's Annual General Meeting in Helsinki, a recent article on Engadget notes. Moreover, it seems that the new device might turn into a highly appealing handset, at least this is what the available images with it, as well as the leaked specs, show.
Among these rumored specifications, we can count a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display, supposedly of WVGA resolution, coupled with a 12-megapixel photo snapper that should also boast Xenon flash and Carl Zeiss optics. Considering the fact that other handset vendors already delivered 12MP behemoths to the market, it doesn't come as a surprise that Nokia will make a step in this direction too, that's for sure.
Other specifications of the upcoming device include an HDMI port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 720p video recording at 30 fps, DivX playback, support for multi-touch gestures, and other more, but most of these are only suppositions at the moment, it seems. However, some of the newly leaked specs seem to be in line with what has been rumored before, and they might actually pan out in the end...
Nokia N8-00 gets first official mention with Symbian^3 and nHD display
...the first official mention of what looks to be Nokia's first Symbian^3 handset. The culprit is the "NN8-00r100-3G" XML file sitting pretty on nokia.com right now. The first notables are a "N8-00" model and the "Symbian/3" string listed in the agent header that seemingly confirm that the N8-00 will run Symbian^3. Next is a "360 x 640 pixel" screen size. Note that the N8-00 display is rumored to be 3.5-inches making this a very similar nHD display to the one found on Nokia's current N-series flagship: the N97. The difference this time is that we're expecting Nokia's newest flagship to opt for a capacitive touchscreen display to match Symbian^3's more finger friendly UI. Unfortunately, we're not seeing any mention of the rumored 12 megapixel camera and the only keyboard mentioned is a "PhoneKeyPad" -- in other words, no QWERTY not that we were expecting one. We do see Bluetooth 2.0 and radios for WiFi and GPRS/EGPRS/EDGE/WCDMA/HSDPA among the other details...
there's a pic and link to this file they're talking about on the engadget site
im looking more towards the htc desire =)
was thinking of getting the x10 before but then its ridiculously overpriced and is still running android 1.6 rather than 2.1 that htc offers =(

its rumored announcement date came and went and now this article

Nokia ... It confirmed the widespread speculation that it has delayed the launch of devices based on the newest version of its Symbian mobile phone software. The company has yet to produce a handset that can compete directly with Apple's iPhone in the very top end of the smartphone market and there are hopes that the Symbian^3 software platform will enable Nokia to regain some of its former magic.
But Nokia said in its statement today that while it plans to launch the first smartphone based on the platform in the second quarter of this year, shipments are not expected until the third quarter, three months later than the market had hoped. The phone in question is widely believed to be the Nokia N8, a touchscreen phone that has a mammoth 12-megapixel camera. Nokia hopes it will compete head-on with the next generation of the iPhone – expected in the summer – as well as Android handsets such as Google's Nexus One and the HTC Desire.
^ I know what you mean....As a strong supporter of Nokia this design does nothing for me....however it has a bit to do with some of the colors they offer...
I however will for sure buy this phone....even with the the just 'ok' design
the HDMI is an added bonus and I like the estimated $500 USD price

Yeah Krazynuck aside from the design im sooo grabbing this phone, Nokia is kinda forced to have a lower price point. so thats good news for us ^^ (their other phones have been plummeting in price because they're having trouble competing)
