Buying a phone from someone...
 

So I'm gonna buy a phone from someone.
He agreed to meet up at Telus, and I think everything seems fine.
We've been emailing back and forth for a week, doesn't seem like any "funny business" going on.

Is there a way to get Telus to check if the phone is legit without them actually activating it for me? (Like looking up the serial?)
I don't want to pay expensive BS fees that they charge to activate it when it's only $10 to activate myself at home.
They might try to make up BS and tell me I need Data Plan or they "can't" activate it. (I just need to use the Wi-Fi)

At the same time, I can never be so sure to trust people, so should I just pay whatever fees and get the phone activated by Telus staff?
Otherwise I can potentially go home with a "brick".

But, if he's already willing to meet up at Telus, and let me get my phone set up by them, he's either bluffing or there is no scam.

So any suggestion?

hehehe, everything sounds fine man but some scammers are pretty ballsy

when you go into Telus you could probably tell them to check the IMEI # first to see if its legit

If he's willing to meet up at Telus then it's all good.

Ask the Telus people if they can search if the phone is blacklisted, meaning that it was reported stolen or lost. If it is blacklisted, then basically theres absolutely no way of ever using the phone again.

So as long as it isn't Blacklisted you can go home and do it yourself, Telus doesn't require you to activate it with them right away.
