^ Completely up to you. Do you like to grapple or strike? I'd take both at the same time if I had the chance.

you can do judo, which is relatively cheap grappling. it works out to be like 35-40 bucks a month. you can throw people and you learn ground techniques. very good base to start off on. unfortunately with sport judo there are a lot of limitations on what you can do during ne-waza (ground phase). Actual kodokan judo you're allowed to do ankle locks and knee bars etc. unfortunately NOT during competition.. so most clubs don't bother teaching it.

I've been there before just to try it out .

They dont have official classes , you just ask the trainer to help you out. Its more of a drop in work-out place. The Owner there is really mean ... Friend got kicked out because he bumped into the Gumball Machine

Only Pros are :
Sauna
Cheap

Might as well ask in here lol

Does anybody know of any local places that sell compression shorts with the cup?

Xtreme Fight Shop doesn't sell them and the only place I've found so far is Combat Athletics but they want $70 for the Jaco Cup System when it normally sells for $50

i use the shock doctor cup and compression short combo. doesn't move around much. only time it moved on me in the 6 months i've had it was when i went for an armbar off the rearmount and it shifted sideways.

the gel padding makes it pretty comfortable. it isn't wide on the sides so it doesn't inhibit movement. the only problem is it's a bit more low-profile than other cups, so there's not much room for your junk.

it's ~$30. i got it from some shop on ebay for the bioflex cup.

if you do striking, shock doctor has a stainless steel cup.

a cheaper alternative that some people like is to get a traditional jock and then wear compression shorts over them.

Thanks for the tips!

Started back up at Dynamic MMA today and it was great.

They have a back to school special right now that lasts until the end of this week.

Prepay for 1 year and its only $800. Works out to be around $67/month for unlimited training. They have muay thai, bjj, wrestling and mma to incorporate everything into one. Mon-Fri classes from noon - 930 and weekend afternoon classes.

Best deal in Vancouver right now.

You can tell that MMA is really picking up steam in Vancouver. I showed up around 5pm and the early evening classes use to be pretty empty. It was PACKED today full of high school kids learning. Was definitely a shock for me haha

Wouldn't mind trying a class out...

Does anyone have any information about an xtreme couture gym somewhere in van? I clearly remember working out at the gym and I was flipping through the papers and saw an ad for xtreme couture in west Vancouver but google shows nothing about it... and I'm also looking for a good boxing coach if anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Thanks

Anyone know where I can get some gear in Vancouver? Mostly fight shorts + rash guard + gi. I can only find it online and I don't want to go through that hassle. Specifically, I like the brand Bad Boy.. the eyes on the ass is dope haha

Any of you guys that train at Dynamic know if they give people a free trial? I'm thinking about doing a 6 month membership there but I also want to try it out first.

Anyone been to / have any reviews of Colombia Martial Arts @ Edmonds, Burnaby? I'm interested in joining, but just curious if anyone knows about this place?

Also wondering the same thing about Aikido Yoshinkai Burnaby.

Buddy of mine goes there and he's told me before there's a trial. Don't know how long, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I've looked at the brochure before , I think they give you a 1 week trial. You can go into any of the classes during that week for free.

Should be a free 1 week trial.

Go in and talk to Joel. He's the nicer guy of the two.

604CEFIRO is the chinese guy working the store front. Tell him you're nipples from revscene and he'll give you a special.
