first off, youre not supposed to jump into MMA if you dont have any background in any other martial arts experience. a good instructor would tell you go learn some BJJ or whatever first. Once you get enough experience, he'll tell you to go to his MMA sessions after. Whoever that let you do MMA right away probably wants your money. |
Are you guys talking about Kameron S**? |

Thanks for the info Stealth. I will deff check it out in the new year. Do they sell any nice Tee Shirts or hoodys at the Dynamic Pro Shop. Like anything that isnt all Gaudy and douchebag looking. Like some of the Dethrone Royalty stuff looks clean. Cant seem to find anywhere that sells stuff besides Tap Out/SiverStar/Affliction. |

If I choose to go with kickboxing first, where's the best place to go? If I choose to go with BJJ first, where's the best place to go? Locations preferred: Vancouver (not dt), BBY (metro area) thx |
BJJ go with west coast BJJ. has a gym across from Bubbleworld. good coach, their guys always win most of the BJJ tourneys in BC. associated with ricardo de la riva who created the de la riva guard who in turn trains with the nogueira brothers and marcelo garcia. they often do seminars in vancouver too. no idea with muay thai. i did boxing for stand up and i went to astoria which is like a straight up ghetto rocky balboa gym. but the guy who runs it is straight up old school. |
bjj go with www.marcussoares.com come to mendoza martial arts out in surrey for muay thai $80 per month unlimited training |
marcelo garcia  one of the best in the biz |

this is a really good but long video. must watch for anyone thinking of joining a mma gym. |
So I ended up figuring out what ima do and I think I'm going to start going to wkx, I've got a friend that trains there and I'm going to give his gym a try bc its cheaper than evolution Posted via RS Mobile |
Rather than starting an all new thread: I come from a Judo background but it's been many years since I practiced. Tournament based stuff like Jiu Jitsu or Muay Thai aren't really what I'm after, I want real world disciplines. I'd like to get into Krav Maga or perhaps a more aggressive variant of Kyokushin. An old friend of mine is a black belt in Kyo but his teacher was ex-military and had his own spin on it, not sure if that is replicated anywhere locally. I'm not opposed to classes but would rather have more personalized training, small groups etc. I'm not at all into standing in front of a mirror for an hour practicing kickboxing combination's, that shit's a waste of time. I'm not looking for an MMA gym but thought this would be a good thread to ask these questions in. I don't plan to compete on any level, this is just for my own health/fitness/personal use. Any suggestions or experiences? |

Haha I'm not bashing MMA at all it's just not what I'm really looking for. But I figured some people here may have a lead on some different style gym's :) But I am gonna bash kickboxing schools that make students do combos in front of a mirror for hours on end with little to no real bag or pad work mixed in. Might as well do some Billy Blanks videos. |
