2.1 is horrible. LIke many said, it's laggy as hell. Switching screens and closing apps feel slower than 1.6, I'm not liking the UI either, feels like a downgrade. Messaging is hard to use, it opens multiple screens if you received a couple of text message without closing the first one and takes a while to close them all. Screen glitches sometimes, and as I'm typing this, my touch screen just failed on me. Wow, seriously?
I rather have the 1.6 than the 2.1. The improvements on the 2.1 is insignificant to me.
-Faster than 1.6-
To me, the things I use the phone for are either running at same speed or at times are more laggy on 2.1. Timespace is quicker, but I rarely look at it.
-HD video recording -
Awesome for those that use their phones to take videos, not a big deal to me however
-SMS-
Changed the layout, I liked the old one more. Keyboard is sometimes laggy and chinese input is harder to see than the one on 1.6. Receiving multiple messages will open multiple "windows"? Takes a while to close them and get back to the message menu.
-Calls-
Big improvement over version 1.6. In call functions are easier to access. However, to me, the new call log is UGLY. If you have an app opened during a call (playing games, reading emails, surfing the web) and the call ends, phone automatically returns to standby mode. (Very annoying while playing games)
-Live Wallpaper-
The idea is cool, but the ones that have pre-installed are hideous.
I also like how you have to slide out the apps menu before. Now it's just clicking the square box at the bottom of the screen. Also moving the icons around got uglier. Overall, the phone might have improved in functionality, but the UI has sure gotten a whole lot uglier. Kinda lost its uniqueness.
Maybe it'll take some time for me to adjust to it.
