Is it full root including the bootloader? or just root access to the OS?

yeah, only difference is that there is actually a team of devs working on the X10. Milestone still has no one trying to crack the bootloader.

I've had the X10 for a few days and will be selling it. Going back to my E71. Don't think I'm ready for this 'app generation' and touch screen business. Buttons suits me just fine. Ppl. weren't kidding about the crappy battery life.
The amount of apps for retarded tasks are amusing though. Seriously, tip calculator?

Alrought guys, I have an X10 being sent to me by Rogers - should be here in about a week or so.
As I am brand smacking new to the Android scene...
What is the first thing I should do?
What exactly is "rooting" - is it similar to having root access in a linux system where basically you can do ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING?
Would rooting allow me to install "not yet released" manufacturer's updates - ie: installing 2.2 Froyo on the X10
TIA

don't bother rooting yet. We can't install custom roms yet.
first thing you should do is install juice defender so that your battery will last more than a day.

one thing i miss from my iphone is the excellent gps software "navigon" which let me store the maps in the phone itself. Is there a similar app on android that i should be looking at, ane most importantly be able to get for 'free' ? Posted via RS Mobile |

google maps itself is pretty good. Only good with a "live" connection. There is an offline app that works well, can't remember the name of it though. Google maps is good enough for me though, best thing is that it's free and has navigation features too.

So I just got the X10 from rogers (yea I know it sucks but I needed a new phone so yea). Anyways what are some of the software I should get? The guys at the rogers store only show me how to get software through the marketplace. Are the software free or do I have to pay for them? Still playing around with it.
EDIT I am still deciding what phone to get X10, Blackberry bold or Acer Liquid E. No Iphone4 lol. Got the IPHONE GS and didn't like it.

^ What do you mean it sucks, I really don't see how people say "it's laggy" "it's slow etc..." it's been REALLY snappy for me so far. (It was delivered to me just yesterday)
Download Juice Defender as JKam described above.
Oh yeah, when 2.1 comes out, it's gonna be awesome

^^ the fact is a rogers phone and is lock does make it kind of crappy but other than that I am loving it so far. Touch screen doesn't to be as senstive as ophone and when I turn the phone sideways the screen or the keypad doesn't change directions. Hummmm but yea the phone is great to use.

dude those are stupid reasons. How often are you going to change providers? Unless you travel a lot it shouldn't matter if its locked or a "Rogers" phone.
Also to fix the sensitivity you just take off the stock screen protector (it comes with it already on) and put on your own. To fix the sideways thing you can install helix launcher, which is by far a superior launcher than the stock one.

^^ fix that. Still getting the feel for the phone. Seems great so far. Just need to figure out all the shortcuts and stuff.
I have a question though for the marketplace I can buy software and such but how do I get bill? Does it go to my rogers account or do I have to enter my Credit card info?

haven't had the need to buy anything yet but I know it goes to your credit card. You have to make a google account and put your cc info there. That's what I had to do when I was about to buy something.

For GPS software there's only a few that work. Because the screen isn't a standard resolution. Ones that have been known to work are: Motonav(iGo), Copilot, and Navigon.
