well if ur jobs requires u to make nationwide calls pretty sure ur companies supplies you with a phone/line. as for calling my family across the country.. really how often do you call? and it only cost me 1 cents per minute calling using my home phone or use a calling card on my cell that takes me maybe extra 30secs to dial.. i rather that then having to technically pay for features that i'll seldom use.. use it's included in the package.. but the price reflects the "option" in the package

I have lines with Rogers, Fido, Telus and Wind. I understand Wind's downfalls, i really do. The shitty reception, the limited "Home Zones", the incredibly shitty selection of phones... however, that doesn't detract from some of the misunderstandings that you and some others have on this thread. My argument is simply that there is a a place for WIND for many people and that this CityFido plan lacks some very important features that are offered on the wind unlimited plan.

I want to clarify this again, wind home zones function EXACTLY like City Fido zones. If you are within range of a WIND tower you are IN the wind home zone. On the Wind unlimited plan, when you are in a home zone (in any city that has wind towers) ANY call you make at ANY time ANYWHERE in Canada is included. The ONLY difference is that with FIDO, long distance is not included.

How some of you can misunderstand Wind's plans are beyond me. It doesn't get much clearer than "Be connected to a wind tower, all your calls and sms in Canada are included, period."

Terkan - Still short sighted i see. Clearly you don't have any friends or family that own small businesses, or are independent contractors, or travel between family in different cities. Also, the majority of households no longer have house/home phones, and calling cards? Like you said, that's perfect for your own limited long distance calling, but i guess that's as far as you can see.

I do understand the consumer wins. Key thing here is this. These companies work and base their performance every fiscal year based on SUBSCRIBERS.

Do you not understand that Rogers Communications Inc, Bell Telecommunications and Media as well as Telus all are publically traded and you would have to completely understand that wireless/cable/internet subscribers 100% correlate to profits and performance

And yes, I know WIND homezones function like CityFido zones. Sadly, how much coverage does WIND cover vs how much coverage is for fido on the ROGERS/FIDO LOCAL AREA NETWORK here in Vancouver. Travel over to Victoria, make a local call to a 250 number, Im still UNLIMITED. with WIND mobile, you CAN'T do this because WIND is not set up for cities like Victoria.

This is where the coverage of the big 3 telecommunications companies have won over WIND mobile. Not saying WIND sucks or anything, but welcome to the fact that its going to take YEARS before WIND mobile will have ANY impact whatsoever.

Your whole argument against Wind revolves around coverage, which I've already acknowledged is "Shitty". This point is moot, cause obviously a startup company who haven't even launched in Vancouver yet isn't gonna be able to compare with networks that have been around for 25+ years. Bottom line for this point: IF you live in Wind coverage, its a great option.

Dont get me wrong, WIND's plan is great, and better than CityFido, but its the way the purchase is setup in which customers finally see the downside to this. Research does show that customers are willing to pay under 200 for a phone rather than 400. On a contract, the phone is 200 or less, customers will pay. $200 for a phone on contract is already considered a premium. WIND does the no contract and offering you a 9700 for $450. Most customers will see this as a big investment short term and might not be able to afford this. What we are dealing with in a forum like this is a very niche market of the industry.

The smart customer that will shop around will be given the education on the difference of networks. HSPA/UMTS/GSM vs 1700AWS. Where is the WORLDWIDE SUPPORT for 1700 AWS. virtually slim.

Why is Fido the only carrier offering this promo? Its because Fido is considered and rebranded as a discount carrier. Bell/Telus/Rogers is not. WIND at the moment is also classified as a discount brand. So FIDO is a direct competitor.

So given the knowledge of a. NETWORK difference and b. compatibility with certain devices ie: iPhone

fido>WIND

again, a consumer with one phone will choose whats best, network coverage and reliability is the one thing that many customers will shop for before making any decision.

I've been sitting back reading all of this blasphemy. I don't see how some of you (one of you actually) is getting so worked up about this simply because there is no point and no reason to.

Just because Wind is offering whatever the hell they have going doesn't mean that the other carriers won't jump the bandwagon. And in the end, the consumer wins? Get real. The only people who are winning are those who don't have a cell phone.

Lemme ask you, how many people do you know without a cellphone? Last i checked around 70% of all Canadians owned cellphones and it's on the rise.

Yes i work for the big red machine. and wind is great for some. i mst admit, but they are just as competitive on the lower end plans vs fido/koodo/virgin

they will once they knw the market here is viable for it. Lets face it, to Wind, canada is a brand new market and there is a certain risk to it. Would you throw in hundreds of millions into a brand new market without know 100% sure of investment outcome? no.
