Can you steam-clean carpet at home?

I believe that periodic steam cleaning keeps the car interior smelling fresh.

Is it possible to steam-clean a car's carpet at home? Is there a recommend steam-cleaning tool and where can this be purchased?

There are few cars in the family and so I might buy one if it works out.

On the other hand, if this will be an onerous job or something I should leave to the pros, let me know.

You can just rent the carpet cleaner at Save-on, Safeway etc. They are very similar to the ones we use. Its not hard work, just time consuming.
