you serious? i agree on all the new smaller homes, smaller garages, and condos that dont have space for you to work on your car, but asking for a dyno, and tuning system? just because i saw some instructions on how to tune my car on the net doesnt make me an expert. i leave that to the tuners.
this place is great because unless you have a garage that is well 12ft high or even higher, you wont be able to fit a hoist. some ppl might have air compressor tanks at home, but even with that, there is only so much you can do with jack stands. its also about time management. i would much rather go here, pay for a couple hours of use of the hoist, than to use a whole weekend without a car. if the job is more complicated than i want, or i just dont feel like working on my own car then i bring it to a shop.
i agree with everything, but asking for a dyno and tuning equipment is a bit much. Quote:

I don't know why you guys are complaining and bickering about the merits of his insurance. I don't think he has anything to worry about. He's renting shop space to you, he's not doing any of the work on your cars. You're doing all your own work, all he is providing to you is space. If the lift fails, he will be at fault but for anything else, the risk has been transferred to yourself as nobody forced you to use his facility.

I know asking for a dyno is a little much, but how do you learn if not by doing? These are all wish things, I myself would love to be able to buy a couple of hours on a dyno just to play with my car, to see if messing with my fuel maps and such would provide any benefits. I'm just a dreamer though. Posted via RS Mobile |

RG will help you get strapped in and operate the actual dyno settings for you while you tune for $90/hr.
That's not bad when you consider that you are using a fairly complex $60,000 piece of equipment (dyno) as opposed to a fairly simple $5000 piece of equipment (hoist).
You could not just have some super cheap free-for-all whore of a dyno, that's just not realistic IMO. That said there is plenty of access to dynos with reasonable rates around here that have been maintained, calibrated, etc.

So I went down to U-fix-it today and let me give you my insights of the shop.
This is the list of equipment available: 4 hoists, 1 bench, 1 vice, 1 cherry picker, power and air for each hoist bay.
There are 5 hoists together and one is often used by the full service shop down the road so you can count that out.
There's also a hydraulic press but you cannot operate it.
You won't be provided even with the special tools but ah you can rent those from Canadian Tire free of charge so there's that way to do it.
If you need to use space without a hoist that can be arranged.
If you are in the middle of a job and you find out you have the wrong part or tools and you cannot get it done you can push the vehicle just outside. Basically you are charged by the hours you are on the hoist.
I saw a EG hatch with RS sticker just outside the shop and a Prelude with RS sticker going to the full service shop down the street...
the 4 hoists are adjacent to each other....I would have spaced them out for more space between cars. Last thing you want is a breaker bar flying into the cabin of the car getting worked on in the next bay....which has all its windows closed. *SMASH* There's plenty of space to have that arranged all hoists are pushed into one side of the shop while the other side has no equipment but cars.
/2cents

I took 2 of my cars here 2 weeks ago. Great set up as I only need the hoist bc I'm too lazy to jack the car onto jack stands. The shop is geared towards idiots like me with zero mechanical knowledge wanting to play DIYer for the next few hrs. I loved every minute of it.

^you are the reason mechanics shops stay in business. there are other poeple who actually enjoy working on their car, and would rather pay $40 to use a hoist and do it right themselves, than take a chance and pay some "professional" $150 to do a half ass job

went there about 2 weeks ago, talked to the owner, he said hes getting out of the hoist rental business... he was losing money on it. he says he's doing BMW dismantling there now, so it would be a good place to go for parts
