Kim Jong Un 04-10-2010 06:56 PM

what's the point of that?

sunny_j 04-10-2010 06:59 PM

no idea... i wonder how the whole sound system sounds

!Shuya80 04-10-2010 07:00 PM

thats pretty cool too bad the ipad is too wide to retrofit =(

asian_XL 04-10-2010 09:00 PM

crazy, it actually looks good!

Hondaracer 04-10-2010 09:10 PM

yea does look pretty good

so much work though to get proper audio output, not worth it at all for your average user

jtanner_ 04-10-2010 09:10 PM

I think it looks pretty sick.. definitely a pretty cool idea

impactX 04-10-2010 10:11 PM

Big screen google map.

SkippyLang 04-11-2010 12:14 AM

That is sweet.

i would definitely do this over a carputer or like what i have a 7" lcd dvd player

very cool

fishing666 04-11-2010 02:23 AM

omg..that was good. It would be perfect with 3G internet. It's more convenient than a laptop so it's like a first in car w/ internet computer. With control of speakers and access to google maps, I bet this kind of upgrade would cost 1000$. The setback would be that glossy screen..it would be nice if you could do a matte coating to avoid that glaring screen

Pretz 04-11-2010 03:48 AM

this is so cool

!LittleDragon 04-11-2010 04:51 AM

I've had carputers in my cars for 10 years and I always wished there was something that was easy to install like this but I don't think I'd ever use this interface in a car. It's just way too complicated to use while driving. Carputers still have the advantage, you get to choose your interface, you can get better sound quality with better components if you want and you can run full blown programs instead of apps.

d3vil 04-11-2010 06:45 AM

this is nice!
too bad it wont fit most coupes or sedans...

Kaiten 04-11-2010 07:32 AM

that would get jacked so fast. cool though, for sure.

SpartanAir 04-11-2010 07:53 AM

I thought the ipad only works on wifi? If that's the case then most of it's functions would only work in wifi range, which doesn't help you when you're driving.
I like the idea, that's exactly how a carputer should work, but seems like all it's good for is the ipod function.

This will work in the USA only because you have the option of purchasing the iPAD with 3G Data Plan with AT&T. So you can drive everywhere in the USA with it. I highly doubt a 3G data plan would be offered here in Canada.

Agreed. Of course, somebody had to install an iPad in a car for bragging rights. A carputer would also be far more economical than using a pricey iPad, too.

Somehow the guy in the video reminds me of this...

Maybe it's his hair...

I think the iPad has a chance to be cheaper because you do not need to buy the screen and computer.

touch screens these days are under $200 and all you need is a $100 Atom based motherboard with integrated chip. The system I built over 6 years ago and I still use cost me less than $400. I spent more on the audio components (amps and speakers). The only part I upgraded was the hard drive because 120gb just wasn't enough. The current 500gb is getting full too.. lol

tiger_handheld 04-11-2010 03:52 PM

looks sweet.

i've always been curious
does the HDD die quicker being inside a car? (from the vibrations of the road surfaces)
