Somehow the story got reversed and people assume the F1 was the onw winning. | This is a the quote found in another article.. it sounds like they are definitely inferring that the Veyron has a clutch. Quote:
His criticism extended beyond aesthetics. He said a recent televised road race organised by the BBC in Abu Dhabi between the Veyron and the McLaren F1 roadcar – the fastest roadcar in the world from its launch in 1992 until the Veyron was produced in 2005 – had to be rigged to make the Veyron look quicker than it was.
“I know that they have to cut the car open to take the engine out. To make an engine in that configuration, you know, it doesn’t go around corners. When we did the race in Abu Dhabi, we beat it off the line so many times that the film crew was getting frustrated because the outcome was supposed to be for the Bugatti to win.
“So we had to do that whole thing about ten times before it managed to get off the line cleanly and catch us up. Because every time they dropped the clutch it bogged down and we were gone.”

^ Veyron has a clutch (two clutches actually) and they are computer controlled. There's no clutch pedal and it's impossible to drop the clutch on a Veyron.
Also, since it's computer controlled, how can it make mistakes and get "bogged down"? As I mentioned earlier, are people going to buy a Veyron and put up with a car that bogs down 9 out of 10 times? Why haven't we heard about a Veyron bogging down until now? It's been tested by numerous drivers and they have all said how easy it is to enable launch control and make a perfect start every time.
This is the complete opposite of what they're saying about the F1/Veyron race.
Even the driver in the Veyron is going "how is this happening" because he probably knows the Veyron will walk away from an F1 every single time from a start.
Oh, and Ron Dennis accusing them of cheating? Take a look at your own racng career before you accuse someone else of cheating, hypocrite.

they could be referring to the launch as "dropping the clutch," and they don't state whether LC is on or off in the video.
either way, it's a gimmicky race for a TV show. I don't get why it's a big deal.

"McLaren F1 was built utterly without compromise"
well...that is NOT true, there's one compromise that Gordon Murray had to take..the engine.
Murray was hoping to get Honda's V10 or V12 in it, Honda decilined 3 times, so Murray had to get a BMW engine instead...which was heavier than what he was hoping for, but because of big displacement, it had more power.
The McLaren F1's was built to celebrate Honda and McLaren's partnership to win numerous races in F1, so it was only natural to go for Honda engine.
