Anyways, Jared was probably eating way worse before he started this subway campaign...a lot of people can lose weight just by cutting out sugar...It's false advertising IMO...you never knew what his lifestyle was before and you don't really know his currently lifestyle so you can't come to a conclusion that eating subway will result in weight loss..

As well, why get subway? you're paying for a few slices of processed meat and cheese with a 6 inch or a footlong...
why don't you spend the same amount of money on real, whole foods?

Did you not read the post? I directly quoted mcdonalds ingredients for their beef patties. They include beef, and some salt and pepper.

Jared was morbidly obese, and went on a semi-starvation diet to become less obese. In no way should he be an influence on how people should lose weight.

After working at subway, I learned that it's not as "fresh" or "healthy" as it's made out to be. The veggies are stored semi-frozen in a large fridge. The only thing that's actually sliced in the back is the tomatoes. Meats are all processed and come pre-packaged (basically the same thing you get at the store). The cheese is essentially kraft single-esque. Not my idea of healthy.

Vansterdam 04-16-2010 06:15 AM

:lol that cheese thing is so true

ahh i miss the good ole days where i would hotbox the subway freezer when my buddies got off work :)

SkinnyPupp 04-16-2010 06:19 AM

Actually the cheese at Subway appears totally fine, at least according to their ingredients. It is just milk and culture.

Compare that to the cheese at McDonalds:

Milk, water, milkfat, cheese culture, sodium citrate, salt, citric acid, sorbic acid (preservative), sodium phosphate, artificial color, lactic acid, acetic acid, enzymes, soy lecithin (added for slice separation).

To be fair, that's not bad either. I had expected it to be filled with extra vegetable oil, but it's not. Just a lot of preservatives and artificial colour.

Extra funny that everyone goes to subway, avoids the cheese and mayo because of the fat, but those two things are the only real foods they use :lol

No.

Beef Patty Ingredients:

100% pure USDA inspected beef; no fillers, no extenders. Prepared with grill seasoning (salt, black pepper).

Real food.

Of course, most morons who go to McDonalds will want to eat "healthy" by ordering something "low fat". So they turn to things like "Chicken Breast Strips". Because chicken breast is healthy!!!

Chicken breast strips, water, seasoning [food starch-modified, salt, autolyzed yeast extract, maltodextrin, chicken broth, natural flavor (plant and animal source), spice, chicken fat], salt, sodium phosphates, sunflower lecithin, maltodextrin, natural flavor (plant source). Battered and breaded with: wheat flour, water, food starch-modified, salt, spices, leavening (baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate), garlic powder, onion powder, dextrose, spice extractive, extractives of paprika. Prepared in vegetable oil (Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness). Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent.

Yeah, I'll take the 100% beef, thanks

You're only telling half the story. When someone goes into McD and order a 1/4 pounder, its not like they ONLY eat the beef. Maybe only you do.:haha:

Patty
100% pure USDA inspected beef; no additives, no fillers, no extenders.

Bun
Enriched bleached flour (bleached wheat flour, malted barley flour, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, reduced iron), water, high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, yeast, salt, calcium sulfate, calcium carbonate, calcium silicate, wheat gluten, soy flour, baking soda, emulsifier (mono- and diglycerides, diacetyl tartaric acid esters of fatty acids, ethanol, sorbitol, polysorbate 20, potassium propionate), sodium stearoyl lactylate, dough conditioner (corn starch, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate, calcium peroxide, ascorbic acid, azodicarbonamide, enzymes), calcium propionate (preservative). :eekthumb:

Ketchup
Tomato concentrate from red ripe tomatoes, distilled vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, water, salt, natural flavors (vegetable source).

Mustard
Vinegar, water, mustard seed, salt, turmeric, paprika, spice extractives.

Pickle Slices
Cucumbers, water, distilled vinegar, salt, calcium chloride, sodium benzoate or potassium sorbate (preservative), natural flavor (vegetable source), alum, polysorbate 80, turmeric.

Onions (Dehydrated)

Seasoning
Salt, pepper, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (cottonseed and soybean).

SkinnyPupp 04-16-2010 07:32 AM

The ketchup is no different from any ketchup you'd buy anywhere. The rest of the ingredients are fine (except the buns, but that is to be expected).

You just pwned yourself sir

Also, The Quarter Pounder doesn't use that seasoning, or mustard, nor does it use dehydrated onions.

Plus I was only comparing the "meat" at first. The fact that Subway pushes their disgusting low fat concoctions as "healthy" is the point I was making. I compared the cheese already, subway has better cheese.

Don't forget doctors and associates is not a real company ;) subway uses it to make itself more healthy

If you REALLY want to be healthy you shouldnt really be eating out. Managing your time and planning for the day makes it that you should never need to actually eat out.
On any given day I have enough food to last me the entire day and then I have snacking foods such as almonds with me.
I would personally go to McDonalds and throw away the bun over going to Subway though.
Most people have a slight allergy to grains so they really shouldnt be eating Subway in the first place... Our bodies just dont know how to properly digest them

just to add,
eating out is bad, but eating at home can be bad too if you dont make good choices at the supermarket.
if your meals come mostly from processed food from the inner aisles, you may as well be eating out.

I'd hope that would be common sense...

We're talking about people who think Subway is healthy and fresh... so....

Fuhrėr-Z 04-19-2010 08:52 PM

I for the life of me cannot explain to my parents why Subway is junk food...They just won't listen and it pissed me off to no extent. Anyways, how is Wendy's compared to MCD and subway? They also advertise the whole freshly made thing, and it looks like it's true (Buns taste really sweet though).

SkinnyPupp 04-19-2010 08:59 PM

It's pretty much identical, except they seem to put even more corn syrup in everything. Even their fucking mayo has corn syrup in it!

You're right about the buns too.. Their bread has corn syrup in it, right below flour and water

You can see for yourself here.

Senna4ever 04-19-2010 10:28 PM

Holy shit, you've done your research! ...unlike Mr. "I am a UBC Food Sciences Graduate". Haha....

Man, screw Wendy's and their HCFS. Why do you need it in Mayo?

goo3 04-20-2010 01:25 AM

Every item @ McD has 0.2g Trans Fat, even the salad dressing. That always gives me a mind trip.

It's because they were basically forced by "health experts" to switch to using vegetable fat. Because animal fat is unhealthy, you see.

raygunpk 04-20-2010 12:42 PM

the smell of subway in your clothes is the worst

Fuhrėr-Z 04-20-2010 06:14 PM

^ lol, the smell of Subway's "freshly baked bread" is the equivalent of the smell from a chemical treatment plant stuck in your clothes.

hal0g0dv2 04-20-2010 06:23 PM

subway is fucking overpriced

skyxx 04-20-2010 08:14 PM

^You know what's overpriced? Lap dances in Vancouver. Don't get me started on "If you ask your GF, it's free". That shit ain't free, it's more expensive than the ones at the damn club. And yes, I know this is the subway thread.

unit 04-21-2010 12:05 PM

dont be fooled by the flatbread either.
the carb value is just as high considering it doesnt come in a footlong.
