ICBC claim report

hey guys I just purchased a claim report on ICBC's website and it showed up as TOTAL THEFT OF AUTO with no price amount. The part im confused is that the car in question is a high-end car so it is VERY hard if not impossible to steal. Does this mean that it only got a window smashed? Or it is stolen, taken for a joyride, steal the wheels, add extra stress to the clutch, crashed and eventually found and repaired? The ignition couldn't be damaged because it is keyless-go.....

thanks

well it could have been the key stolen from the owner / copied when valet'd and driven away for a joyride.

and it doesn't take damage to total a car from theft, if the car is stolen and not recovered over a certain period (I think 3 months? I could be wrong) the car is considered totalled even if it was recovered later without a scratch.

Without being hit then of course there wouldn't be a claim value, which is probably the case.

If it's window smashed it's not going to be "theft of auto" but labeled "comprehensive"

ICBC will write it off... eg tons of SUVs get exported to African countries.. (You never want to buy a WHITE SUV).

It means the car has been stolen.. tons of ways one can do it, from basic valet to duplicating the keys, just because it is keyless go doesn't mean it is not impossible.

Total theft of auto means just that, the car was stolen and found it doesn't mean the car was a right off or trashed. Quite possibly it was towed to have the interior or wheels stripped and then found with no other damage

I thought it was 30 days? Quite possibly changed by now, but a few years back when we had our solara stolen, 30 days passed, check came in the mail, and a few days later cops found it with only a few scratches on it. Luckily got to keep the money.

if you are looking at purchasing a theft recovery, look very very closely at the ignition and the wiring behind/under the dash to make sure the entire module of wiring was properly replaced, not not simply re-spliced or repaired.

thanks for the info!

now how can I negotiate more off the price with this claim? I looked at the car, the car looks alright and it has stock rims although it has curb rash.

Best of luck with that.
Dec's over 2g's help with that but very seldom thefts, unless you can prove some type of major damage or saftey concerns that may not have been addressed.
