help! '99 honda accord wont move out of gear shift

hey guys, so recently my honda accord got into an accident. As of now my accord has no batteries and the gear shift wont move out of the park position. I was wondering what the problem could be so if someone could help me out it would be great.

Are you just trying to engage it to neutral?

for automatic transmission, try engaging the key shaped. lever to 'shift lock' position. this will unlock any unintended locking of the lever.

Honda's have a lock out mechanism so you can't move the lever out of park without the engine started and brake pressed. You need to stick your key into the slot beside the shifter which will manually unlock it so you can get out of park.

this is how you do it

see the trim piece around the shifter? the black ring pull that off, there's no screws so just pull.

after that next to the "P" on the left hand side there's a hole, press the car key into it and you can move it to any gear position you like
