Too much toe-in causes accelerated wear at the outboard edges of the tires, while too much toe-out causes wear at the inboard edges.

The tires are wearing out on the outside more than the inside (which i find strange - its usually the inside?). The service guy came out and measured it with the thread thing and its like 3/32 on the outside and 7/32 on the inside. The car is bone stock and not lowered. Im assuming the alignment must be off - looking at the tires myself they do look worn a bit on the outsides. I mentioned to them that some of the wheel weights appear to have fallen off but the tech said the car would shimmy if the balance was off. There is only one wheel weight left on one of the rear tires now - Im sure there was at least three last time i checked.

I bought the car with 8,500km in september 2009. The car is now at ~45,000km. the winter tires were on for about 12K which means these stock bridgestones have only had 33,000KM put on them and they already need replacing!! Is this normal for a stock G35?

Im kinda worried if this continues to happen - I will need to buy summer tires almost every year, which seems ridiculous to me. I was quoted 1700 dollars for news ones at the dealership (obviously I will not buy them from there).

I was thinking of going to Dales and getting an alignment done. Not sure if that will help now.

Any other G35 owners having problems with tire wear? This car is starting to hurt my wallet.

Alex i just saw your post - maybe I'll get you guys to take a look. I was planning to come down to get some spacers for my wheels anyways. What are your hours? Are you guys open on Victoria day?
At that kind of unevenness I wouldn't be surprised that the car has either been crashed into / curbed during its lifetime, causing some really funky suspension geometry.

Better put it on an alignment machine and once over the situation.

Your tires won't cause excessive noise because of slightly uneven wear. You said it yourself, the weights are missing on all but one wheel. They definitely need re-balancing. You should get between 75,000 and 100,000km to a set of high mileage tires if you drive nicely. If you floor it a lot, or corner hard, you'll get far less.

paying 1700bucks for a set of tires is about right for sporty expensive tires. If you want something more affordable, I would look into getting a set of Westlake SV308's in your profile and size, they are pretty affordable, and they hold the road well on my RX-7. They are usually around $180 or so a piece, but I'm sure you can get them for less than that since store cost is between $70-$100 each.

Buy a set of new tires and immediately get an alignment done with the NEW tires on the car. The old worn tires will pull on the suspension differently than the new ones, effecting your alignment.

thanks for the advice guys!
The rims have been curbed mildly a few times (i wasnt driving) and I do drive it hard. I guess time for a re-balance and maybe look into a whole new set of wheels and tires - I have an excuse now

If you get upgraded wheels use this to find out what tire size you need to keep your outer diameter the same. Sucks when your speedo is off.
