97 Civic SI and 2000 Civic SI

Looking to buy a civic SI. What's the difference between a 1997 and a 2000? Any comments would be appreciated, thanks.

The 99-00 civics had a facelift done, therefore:
Headlights are different

To accommodate the new headlights the following also changed:
fenders
bumper
hood

The rear tail lights are also different in that they no longer have amber turn signals, just clear/white.

Other than that, engine tranny and all the other goods were left unchanged for the most part, the difference between the years is mostly cosmetic.

Thanks guys. Would the 2000 tail lights work on a 1997? The clear ones does look better...:P

If you have a choice of the 2 go with a 97. Reason for this is if you plan on modding the car at all the 97 has different Air Care regulations. Being a 00 you must do the OBD2 scan check. That could fuck you in the ass down the road if your modding the engine... like it has for me.

Berz out.

if i was going to get a car like that, i would look at an Integra instead, its the same chassis, but a better motor and you can do more work to it.

Thanks guys for all the input. Hey Jim how's it going? I used to deal with you a long time ago when I still had my ef. This new ride is gonna be my daily driver and I am not gonna do a lot of mod to it, probably just bolt on stuff like intake and exhaust.

I am leaning towards a 97 si right now, trying to find 15" rims and tires and a short shifter. I've got Dave from Comptec looking for me as well. I've basically got intake and exhaust already, but if I find an 'affordable' header, then I might...

i think everyone pretty much covered it.

just to re-hash, difference between 96-98 and 99-00 is:

front end (hood, headlights, bumper, grill, fenders)
96-98 has a wider bumper opening compared to 99-00
99-00 has wider grill and sharper headlights compared to 96-98
99-00 tail lights look better (for both hb and coupe )
99-00 climate control is better and also double din compared 96-98 being single din radio

this being said, everything can be modified on a 96-98 coupe fairly easily. only the climate control takes a bit more work than the rest i'd say.

good luck with your search!

you would love the apexi noir then. low rpm is similar to stock, yet it really makes a diff when you floor it.

not to mention the exhaust is full black, so it wont be heaty nor would it attract cops.
