VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It's being called the biggest illegal tobacco bust in B.C. history. It follows the search of a container which arrived from China at the Port of Vancouver on April 15th, bound for a destination in Richmond.

The Canada Border Services Agency and RCMP announced the bust today, along with the arrest of six men from the Lower Mainland. The container was declared as 'household sinks'...however, upon further examination, officers found boxes containing contraband cigarettes.

Colleen Pinvidic from the CBSA says the container contained more than 50,000 cartons of cigarettes worth approximately $3.4 million on the street. "It is very important to us because we realize the proceeds of illegal tobacco fuel organized crime and undermine the safety of our communities."

The cigarettes were counterfeit Canadian and American brands, along with Chinese brands you usually can't find in Canada. RCMP say the investigation is on-going.

No. Real tobacco. Cost of making cigs are pennies. Most of the cost is in marketing and tax.

None, both kills.

The difference is whether the government gets a cut.

And the government ALWAYS wants their share. You're more likely to get away with growing pot than not filing your taxes. :p

actually fake cigs don't even have tobacco in them, they contain other substance & i think it's grass or some shit like that

my dad use to work for a cig company back in the day & some of his friends/ex-co workers are doing the same thing making fake cigs, my dad says these guys really tick him off cuz they use to come & asking my dad if they taste like real cigs

but me & my dad don't smoke not more so really don't care, plus if u wanna try fake cigs go buy a pack of red tops, there fake cigs filled with grass/cheap substance & there the reason why we don't got marlboro legally in canada

speaking of cigs, i got 2 cartons of marlboro from airport, but I was told u can only sell privately.

fake cig taste like shit. there maybe acutally tobacco in it but large percentage is fill with crap like grass newspaper or anything that burns like tobacco and use it as filler.

I have smoked and seen them before. On another note, some chinese smokes are quite good.

Smoking is a waste of money...and health.

As stated above fake cigs taste like shit. Never buy smokes from a small corner store as there is a very high chance the smokes they sell is fake. Buy from 7-11 or a big name gas station even if it cost a little more.

I only smoked fake belmonts before.. The taste is actually really different. The fake tasted a little saltier :S

I knew it was from China even without reading the article.
