IMHO thats just how jobs go sometimes.
There is time's when you get into a simple job and things snap and break and it turns into the biggest bitch and mechanics need to charge more.
Everybody's gotta eat including mechanics and we cant pay for things we didn't anticipate just because we didn't tell you before hand.
Shop Rent is more than a mortgage, plus 10 grand in tools another 10 in shop equipment and years of experience and knowledge dose not make for a cheap bill.
this guy dose sound like a hack though, changing the serpentine belt and valve cover gasket should have been discussed in the initial deal. If I have to take a high wear part off to fix a different problem I will always give the option to a customer to change it, because they are already paying for the labour no point in coming back in 2 months to pay for it again.

He's a out of garage mechanic

Okay I understand if he didn't anticipate a worn out part breaking, but my part worked just fine, my timing belt wasn't even too bad I just wanted to replace it to be on the safe side. I'm not sure how far I updated you to , but yea on friday I told him to stop untill I see my car and the parts he is "replacing" then on saturday I go to his house wait 2 hours and he's not home. So I went camping that night. And at around 9 I told him fine Ill pay for the parts and everything if he continues to work on my car and have it ready for me on monday, and I also told him to include parts receipts. Today I call him around 12pm and told him I'm comming around 4, he said it will be ready by 2 so just drop by. At this time I agreed to pay 60 for crankshaft pulley and 60 for tensioners and a seal of somesort. At around 4:30 I showed up at his place to pick up my car. He wasn't home, I knock on his door and his mom said he'll be home at 5, I wait till 530 then knock again and she gave him a call. He said he will call back in 5mins. 5mins later she hands me the phone and its his buddy at a autoshop saying yea you have a rare chrysler engine instead of mitsubishi engine in your car, you can either get a used crank shaft for 300 from victoria or a new one for 500 and it takes 8 days to come. He told me luis (the mechanic) told me to chose. I told him I chose neither because my crankshaft pulley was fine when I gave it to him. The guy at the body shop later on says , luis might be at blame or it was actually broken. So I decided to call thespeedsyndicate who confirmed if my crankshaft was broken it would of been impossible for my car to have been running fine and droven to surrey from burnaby. So I told him I want to part and I wanna see luis. He said luis left.his mom told me luis will call me when he gets home. I got no call , so I called his house ansd I velieve his cousin answered. I told him if I don't get my car back I will involve the authoraties and will file a claim at the courts. He said okay ill get luis to call u and I got nothinng so far.

Just wondering what are the legal actions I can take, a 2 hour job for 180 became an over 6 day job for 220 for labour 120 for parts and now an additional 300 for parts that he has no proof is broken or that it was broken before hand.

You answered your own question.. there is no action you can do, besides taking him to small claims which would cost more than what it is costing you just to file.

With your logic, he can also charge you for storage.. since your car is on his property.

If you want the car out ASAP, do what I had suggested, get BCAA and get it towed out of the place. Better if only mom or whatever is here, then you can just walk away with the car, no need to pay him for the parts.

I guess you haven't learn the lesson of not trusting shade tree mechanics?

How would you know your uncle's friend can deal with whatever that is stuck on?? Honestly most back alley mechanics can't do the job because they don't' have a hoist so they can apply leverage.. If things that are stuck and needed to be "welded off" chances are it would have been a whole lot easier if he have better leverage to take off a nut / wheel or whatever. But that's another rant.

Take it to one of the local supporters of Revscene! http://www.revscene.net/forums/revsc...tive-f225.html

I don't think you're getting screwed here as bad as you think. I'm not saying you're not getting screwed, but it's not as bad as you think.

As a professional automotive technician, I can tell you that sometimes jobs come along that go that way. Your car isn't new, old parts break, and old gaskets and seals need to be replaced. That being said, if this guy was a half-decent tech, he should've told you this before accepting the job.

You said "If my car was soo shitty why did it run fine before he got it?" .... It's simple, you'd be surprised how many shitty cars run great. Parts and gaskets/seals are going to break or leak at some point in time. Your car could've been one of many that just needed those parts/seals replaced. Not to mention many of those seals need to be removed in order to get to the timing belt anyway, and are non-replaceable.

All said, I'm not trying to defend the guy who did the work on your car. Just sometimes people can't see things from our point of view. I hope you can

We'll I do see his prespective, today I guess after my mom threats to tow and go to claims court he called me saying pick it up at 4-5 today for 380 I said okay fine but I want receipts he got mad but said okay u pay taxes. But if my car is ready is it fair if I give him the 220 for labour and money for what ever receipts he has for parts he got. Because we agreed to 220 and the rest is just parts, so I want atleast proof of the parts

This thread should be a sticky. Being cheap in the beginning more than often leads to expensive in the end.
