I looked around and found that we didn't have a New Orleans thread so it was time to make one.
I've spent a fair bit of time in the Big Easy (lol ur mom) so I thought its time to make a thread helping you through your visit to the Crescent City. Where is it?
New Orleans is located in the Southern United States (omg racism) on the Mississippi River in Louisiana. On average it'll be a 6-7 hour flight from Vancouver or Seatac. Whats it got?
Famous features of the city are: The French Quarter, The Superdome, Riverboats, Casinos, Museums (not lame ones lol), and cemeteries (yes, cemeteries) Isn't everyone down there an ignorant hick?
Nah. Its got a pretty diverse population, especially for the south. You won't see any Klan meetings being held on a city street so no need to worry. If you hate whitey, you're in luck, because they're a minority here.
Oh, and they have almost a dozen universities and colleges in the city limits so you'll find a fair amount of decently educated people here. Where have I seen it/What have I seen it in?
There are tons of tv shows, movies, and even video games set in New Orleans. You may have seen it in: K-Ville, The Skeleton Key, Treme, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and the final level in Left 4 Dead 2. I hate that trumpet crap. That music is terrible. Die in a fire
If you don't like Jazz and Zydeco no need to worry, New Orleans has a huge country music, rock, and hip-hop scene. Lil' Wayne is a God to people down here. Man, I'm hungry as hell..
New Orleans food is rich in flavor, served in huge portions, and is likely going to shorten your life. If you want to dine in a healthy restaurant get back on the plane and fly to another state. A few places to eat are: The Camellia Grill, Cafe Du Monde, Cafe Fleur De Leis, and on the Natchez Riverboat. Local cuisine includes: Alligator (yes, reptile. yum), pralines, Po Boys, jambalaya, gumbo, Muffuletta sandwiches (lol muff), and assorted fresh seafood. Why does God hate this city?
They've dealt with an oil spill, a revolution, a civil war, economic depression, and two bouts of flooding thanks to hurricanes. To date Vegas has had none of this. Must be all the voodoo. When should I go?
The city has Jazz Fest and Mardi Gras, which are both good times to go.
You can visit pretty much any time you want, though, and you'll have a good time
Oh, and: Oh God did I get off of the plane in the center of hell? What is this? Fuck my life. I want to die
Thats just the heat. The humidity makes it worse but you'll get used to it after a couple of days. Take plenty of showers and remember to stay hydrated.
Any comments? Questions?
