Hey everyone so the time has come to get my first bike, and before that must come the gear lol.

The question is... just how much ankle protection do you need as a beginner rider? I've been having my eyes on some very nice A* riding boots, but the thing is they are low cut style and here's a pic:

But it seems like there's no way these could help my ankle from breaking on a fall. So I'm wondering if should get some boots that look like this, although I don't really like the look of them:

its true your not going to get more protection from a low cut boot to a full boot
if you want something that looks good and has good protections get these Puma 1000 V2

but they arent cheap 400-500
its really up to you, if your worried then get the full boot
for me it was either normal shoes or my sidi verts ( luckily they fit snug under my jeans)

lots of diffferent brands out there to try. Check out Pacific yamaha and Richmond Motorsports to try on boots. Also try Aaron at Modern on Commercial and 12th.
Really good prices online.

I believe Bayside Performance may have some gear as well. Their prices are pretty competitive.

I would much prefer a regular boot over an ankle boot. They just...feel so much safer. :lol

Yep I've been checking out Bayside, they have alot of A* boots on their website which is where I first saw that ankle boot.

I haven't gotten my bike yet, but if all goes well I will have pictures up of either an 06 gsxr 600 or an 07 r6 in a few weeks!

plus one for aaron from modern if you buy more then 1 item he gives you a combo deal which usually brings the price down significantly

A little on the expensive side, but if you got the money, I highly recommend Sidi brand boots

Never looked back after spending that $400. Best investment ever - next to leathers.

I'm going to go make a deposit on a k6 gsxr tomorrow, couldn't find any 07's with the colour that I want that I could afford!

I had Sidi boots before but now Im using those Alpinestars boots in your first pic.
The Sidi boots are not very comfortable to wear especially if you're just riding around in the city. Those are full race boots. The low cut ones are way more comfortable from what I found and I only paid like 140 or something like that from aaron at modern. He hooks it up!

But if youre on a budget, I bought a set of Nitro high cut boots, not ankle (since its the most important area to protect)

I am also a new rider, and bought a bike primarily for commuting around town. Thus I wanted a decent shoe to wear on and off the bike.

I bought these and really like them. Eventually I'll get proper boots if I find myself doing a lot of long rides or track days, yet for now these work well and offer decent protection.

Price is great at $130, so if eventually you don't like them, you can use them as just sneakers.

I used to wear Icon Superduty 2 which looks similar to the boot that Taylor192 posted. Super comfy, but minimal protection. I lowsided at 20-30 km/h and it held up perfectly fine. I've since upgraded to Sidi B2 boots which I got on closeout for $150. Much more protection, I feel safer on these when riding on the highway. Not as comfortable as low-cut boots obviously, but they're not as agressive as the higher Sidi boots.

Just wondering, when you lowsided, did the bike fall on your ankle?

I"ve lowsided before and highsided a lot within three months of riding this season as a new rider LOL. And definetely if I didn't have my full motorcycle boots on my last spirited ride I would have been screwed. Those low cuts work good for what they do but they aren't that protective. If your going out on a long ride get boots. If your just doing city thing get short cuts or even regular sneakers will do. Because in a city if a car hits u ur leg is gonna be crushed either way lol.

what?? highsided too? man you got to take it easy! Just go on beginner group rides..and follow 125cc bikes. Then slowly move up. Trust me on this one.

i've highsided before and one of my runners flew off. parts of my foot got slightly cut, but no biggy. picked up a pair of sidi vert 2's after that.

you're ankle can be hurt in any type of accident. if i were you, i'd go for the full boot that offers ankle protection.

Superslowss wtf 125cc? that's less than my friends dirtbike. I highsided in dirt but it still counts as riding. I've only lowsided on my streetbike when I was too fast in a corner twice. 125cc's LOL your hilarious.

Yes, but the bike slid away from me almost immediately after impact. The metal fastener has some decent scrapes, but my ankle was completely fine.
