VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Android phone has made huge gains in the past year - it has passed the iPhone's operating system in popularity in the U.S.
According to a report by the NPD Group, the last quarter has been very successful for Android. While RIM still has the top spot with 36 per cent of phone systems, Android is now in second with 28 per cent of the U.S. market. Apple's operating system sits in third with 21 per cent.
This is far from comScore numbers in February that said Android had 10 per cent share and Apple with a quarter.
With more phones and more providers offering Android, it is no surprise it has made gains. But with a new release of the iPhone on the way, some consumers may be waiting for the next generation - skewing things in favour of Android.
