I think the desire z is actually not a bad idea. I would prefer it to the desire hd. 4 inch screen for me is just too big to lug around comfortably. I would much prefer to have a hardware keyboard. Touch screen keyboards blow imo

the Desire HD looks good in the front but the back is somewhat wtf to me
and I used to love 4" + screen but then I changed my mind after using a 4"+ touch screen. It's just too big for me to use it one hand.

Any whoo official videos on Desire HD and Z

Desire HD no 850mhz 3G :( Telstra isn't getting it either :(

iam_dan 09-15-2010 05:58 PM

im really looking forward to the desire hd
ive been waiting for a touch screen with high res display

its nice that it'll have slightly better battery life than the original desire too...

SkinnyPupp 09-15-2010 08:12 PM

Damn maybe I should get that instead of the i9000. But I have been having trouble selling my Desire for a decent price already, so I doubt I'll be switching phones until some time next year. Maybe when the Android 3 phones come out.

SkinnyPupp 09-15-2010 08:16 PM

BTW I calibrated my battery, and now it charges up to 4182 mV, instead of 3800 or so. If you have a Desire or N1, and it doesn't charge that high, give this a try:

1) You will want to make sure the power cord is plugged into the AC adapter, not USB
2) connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green
3) Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off.
4) Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green. (this should be instant)
5) Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on.
6) Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again
7) Reconnect it to the charger until the notification LED is green. (if done correctly, this will NOT be instant, and your battery will be "topping up")
8) Disconnect the phone, power it on, and use it. Your battery should be charged higher than it was before.

The resolution isn't higher. Still 800x480 like most.

Did anyone install the OTA update through the phone? My phone will be stuck on the HTC logo screen after I hit install. Anyone else having issues? My phone is on leedroid 2. 0a

Do not ever use OTA update if you're using aftermarket ROM. The latest hboot may prevent rooting and recovery for loading ROMs

SkinnyPupp 09-16-2010 07:31 PM

If you screwed up and loaded the latest hboot, just run this.

THe desire HD is what i will get to replace my nexusone
the senseUI is too awesome!

raygunpk 09-16-2010 09:35 PM

^ even though the screen is a WVGA as opposed to an AMOLED?

Tim Budong 09-16-2010 09:38 PM

its the senseUI that has me so sucked into this whole thing
my NexusOne is still AMOLED

SkinnyPupp 09-16-2010 09:55 PM

Sense UI is a battery rapist. I am not missing it at all after replacing it with LauncherPro and some widgets.

hongy 09-16-2010 10:02 PM

Like Skinnypupp I use only launcherpro now. However nothing beats the weather widget on htc sense.

SkinnyPupp 09-16-2010 10:03 PM

Actually, Beautiful Widgets beats it :)

-Skinnable
-Uses AccuWeather or Google
-Light weight
-Can launch any program you want
-SKINNABLE (yes you can make it look exactly like Sense)

Using the same now. Even has weather animations.

Currently running Leedroid 2.1 now. 15hours uptime with 7hours of MSN connectivity. Next step undervolt kernel. Most of Sense still installed just no Sense Homescreen.

SkinnyPupp 09-18-2010 03:41 AM

After having the (shitty) Cyanogen camera app crash on me, I am giving up on it. Just too many little problems. I am going to try a Modaco rom with Sense removed now.

SkinnyPupp 09-18-2010 09:10 AM

Wow the new rom might be even better! Phone has been unplugged (sync on, wifi on) for 3 hours, and has only gone down to 96%. With the retail Sense rom, it would probably be around 75% right now.

hongy 09-19-2010 12:26 AM

Can anyone recommend a set of headphones with a mic? don't really care for music controls. I don't remember who was it that ordered that barely there case but how is it holding up for you? My bestskinsever is peeling off with dust in many of the corner areas and they're not responding to my emails so fuck it.

StylinRed 09-19-2010 12:52 AM

the hd and z are obvious competitors against the nokia n8 e7 but the features lack in comparison + the htc costs more

the only reason you'd get the htc over nokia is if you're a android/htc FAN rather than just looking for a good phone

raygunpk 09-19-2010 01:06 AM

Oh, I meant when you replace your phone with the Desire HD.

Why are they obvious competitors? It's just the next evolution of their phone. I don't see how features are lacking and why the n8 or e7 are automatically considered good phones compared to the HTC. They're different.

Skinnypup,
The solution you posted does work, and I've been doing it whenever I know I will need a little extra from my battery, but do you or anyone else know if there is a permanent solution to this. Its kind of annoying having to do it every time

Don't feed the trolls. He should get points for trolling in an on-topic forum thread.
