Even though the hinge is questionable, I'm not too concerned with it.
As long as the screen doesn't wobble in either position i think they're good to go.
It did wobble when it's in the partially open position and it did feel a bit lose. Mind you this is a demo so many ppl have played with it. But it's a sign of things to come maybe.
for those who actually have the desire z, what do you think of the hinge? I was hoping htc would've at least fixed the problem since it was released almost a month after the g2 =/
I'm getting it in a few days.. I'll let you guys know how it is then
But if you wanna play with a real one, the best bet is the bell store at Metrotown, all their demo phones are working devices, but I don't know if they have the Desire Z up and running yet

THe Desire Z is nice
but once it gets the XDA treatment, its gonna be even better, aside from what i think is a weakass hinge, the phone is great! my first impressions was that the keyboard was very tactile and easy to use. Thats key. SenseUI im not a big fan of, but Sense2.0 seems snappy
but yea..once its fully deved out, this phone will be great
to this day, the best phone to mess shit around is still the NEXUS ONE
I just bought one and was wondering if the hinge is a huge problem for anyone. The one I have seems to open if it's held upside down and slide down a little if the qwerty keyboard is opened and titled at 90degree angle
mine's not as tight as his. but i tried holding it in all types of positions and honestly you've got be holding it while hanging upside down or smthg for it to drop down due to gravity lol.
Not sure if this is a defect or not, but when the keyboard is out and i press on the touch screen at the corners closest to the keyboard (bottom right and bottom left) I can feel the screen pressing down. Other than that my hinge is perfect, just like the video. I can have the phone at any angle and it still wont close due to gravity.
Should I be exchanging my device since the screen has a slight give when pressing down on the bottom half when the keyboard is out?
Also, anyone know where to buy a full body shield for the phone locally? I don't want to get a case and make the thing bulky. And don't want to wait for shipping.
EDIT: when looking at the phone from the front, does anyones lock/power button look slanted? But from the back it looks parallel to the slope of the phone.

Nope, picked it up yesterday night actually. And went out last night and got home late so didn't get a chance to play with it much. I'm just trying to get all my contacts off my broken iphone.
Hows your screen btw? The only possible problem I see with mine is it has some give when the keyboard is out, when i press the touchscreen on either the bottom right or left of the screen.
The other issues, I was just being to picky about.

No wifi issues for me so far. Even when using qwerty. Is it that the wifi icon disappears up top? Or is it just really slow/doesnt even connect, while still displaying you are connected to wifi.
Edit: I just noticed, but I HATE how they organize the Text msgs. Basically like:
my signal is really strong when I'm not using qwerty, but the signal slowly dies until there's not connection once I hold the qwerty with my left hand. Guess I should return it for one that works properly.
i had the same text msg problem with the desire. I was told the problem is with your carrier, not the phone. My advice is to download handcent from the market. Much better than the stock msg app and fixes the timestamp issue.
