I am still amazed at browsing on this thing.. It really is like a small web browser in your pocket.

That's a $200 premium over the X10 over here. Plus there's no warranty so if it ever breaks, you're SOL.

It's too bad, because the Desire is everything I want in a phone. I just don't know if Sense UI, multitouch, more RAM, trackpad, and newer firmware are worth the 30% price jump + no insurance. Plus it only comes in that ugly shade of brown. :lol

If you think the X10 costs $430 you are fucking dreaming :lol

$430 + 2 (or is it 3?) years of service = $900-1100 for an X10

btw, download swype =). Best keyboard i have ever used ;).

I've tried Swype, I don't really like it. I am using the modded HTC IME, and it works pretty well. Nothing is as good as TouchPal though, I hope they come out with an Android version soon!

X10 can be had for $149 HUP. Or just buy it new off a local shop, CL, or RS for around 430-500. But the old firmware and no multitouch just kills it for me. Still only looking at either this or the milestone.

I don't understand the anti-contract bandwagon either.

I'm paying $44.89 after tax for my voice+data plan, the same exact plan that two of my friends are paying $68.xx after tax for.

They're paying $831.96 over the next three years for the luxury of not being on a contract, plus I get a free phone worth $550 MSRP (though realistically, I was offered $500 for it on RS).

So I'm at an advantage of $1331.96. Where's the problem?

SkinnyPupp 05-25-2010 08:34 PM

OK so you're considering sketchy Craigslist sellers as an indication of price...

So you think everyone is going to pay that much at Rogers or Telus when they can get a good plan with no contract, and own t heir own phones with Wind or Moblicity?

neither are available yet nor do we know what rates they have so we can't really compare Wind to Rogers at the moment.

SkinnyPupp 05-25-2010 09:56 PM

Yup, so people smart enough not to be on a contract will be able to switch if they are good, or stay where they are if they are not good

Getting a "sample" on July 3rd. can't wait. :)
looks like an awesome phone and it will be my first Android. Almost got X10, glad I waited.

how is Divx supported on this phone? right out of box without conversion?
Do you need an extra program like yxplayer or does it come with it's own program?

SkinnyPupp 06-09-2010 10:15 PM

No DivX support OOTB. I haven't looked into media players.. I never watch videos on my phone, even though I've had the capability for the last 10 years. It's just one of those gimmicks that sounds cooler than it actually is. I'd rather use the battery doing other things :D

ecsw 06-09-2010 10:32 PM

^ I never got use to it until my n900. divx OOTB. Didnt eat up my batter much on my n900 either. I have 2 batteries and I alway rotates every 2 days with regular use of email/web/video/msn.

Thanks for letting me know. I know X10 with yxplayer works great, just want to know in advance before I put my hand on the desire. :)

can't wait, another 21 days.

does anyone know when the triumph is going to be released?

Tim Budong 07-02-2010 01:40 AM

give the nexusone a shot
its here its now and when senseUI goes 2.2, it will be exactly identical

Marioo1991 07-09-2010 06:27 AM

"Telus is getting really close to introduce the HTC Desire in Canada, as the carrier has reportedly started employee training for the Android 2.1 smartphone (which won’t be named Triumph after all).

Right now, it’s said that the Desire will hit Telus’ shelves before the end of this month (July).

There’s still no word on pricing, but I’ve been looking through Telus’ smartphone offering and I think the Desire will cost less than $200 with a 3-yr contract (the Motorola Milestone, for example, costs $149.99)."

Marioo1991 08-06-2010 02:20 PM

its here now, stores are receiving their inventory. I was told they should be selling them tomorrow.

Tim Budong 08-06-2010 06:18 PM

i loaded the desire rom on my Nexus One...damn! some of the apps are great, but its not as quick as Stock Froyo, which is expected

Fuhrėr-Z 08-07-2010 10:35 AM

Will I be able to get Rogers 3g on this phone if I buy it through telus?

Beautiful, think I'm gonna head over to a Connect and pick this bad boy up. Do you know if the unlock codes from htcsimunlock.com are dependable?

hongy 08-07-2010 11:22 AM

I'm using http://www.mobileincanada.com/?l=en&u=all and they said they can't yet, so not entirely sure if htcsimunlock would unlock the telus version yet.

c3m 08-07-2010 01:26 PM

^ it can be unlock now
people from howardforum bought a code from eBay and it unlocked but it's quite pricey right now
it's 50 bucks vs. 20 bucks from other places, which will probably get their codes soon

Fuhrėr-Z 08-07-2010 01:26 PM

^ Yeah I checked with that site and it's questionable that htcsim has the code and mobileincanada does not.

Anyways I went down to the metrotown connect to pick up the desire, but found out it costs $659 vs the telus website price of $450. Apparently if I don't buy the phone on my telus account(which I can't cause it hasn't been a year since I got my gay ass blackberry plan, and I would have to pay $200 cancellation fees) I have to purchase it at MSRP. Should of read the fine print. :(
