I like the sense ui a lot, the only thing I see myself doing is trying to extend the battery life, I use it only for texting and calls so far and I'm always down to something like 30% or less at the end of the day.

Honestly the battery life doesn't seem great, but I don't think its that terrible especially if you are a moderate user.
Slightly off topic too but, swype is fucking awesome.
I do sometimes have issues with the push email though. Often it's rather delayed. Especially when using gmail. Posted via RS Mobile |

May take a few uses to get the full battery life. It also depends how many background apps are accessing data. For me I disable google sync and only set it to sync 2x a day. There are other things as well. ie. twitter, facebook, weather, etc.

Yeah I turned all the syncing to ber at the very most every few hours except for email. I don't see the point in having the social networks updating constantly, can just open it up when you need it and have refresh then.
Been paying with it quite a bit today along with a couple calls, emails and texts and I'm still over half battery. The battery if also brand new so I'm guessing it will still improve a bit Posted via RS Mobile |

-reduce screen brightness
-install task killer and shut down all apps I'm not using
-use power control to shut down gps,Bluetooth, etc when u aren't using them Posted via RS Mobile |

-Shutting down tasks usually ends up in using more battery life
-BT and GPS are only ever enabled when they are actually being used. Shutting them off won't do much for battery life

It's been explained many times, let me find a link somewhere.
Ah nevermind I'll just write it again
Basically, the way Android works is to put apps into a 'sleep' state when not being used. If an app is not open, it just resides in memory in a sleep state. It uses no CPU.
When you open the app again, it just pulls it from the cache immediately.
If you shut these sleeping apps down (which there is no reason to do so), you are needlessly freeing up memory (which does not use battery life). When you open these apps again, instead of simply being transferred from memory, they actually have to start up again - more CPU usage.
At its best, a task killer will have no effect on battery life. At its worst, if you are constantly force stopping apps and opening them throughout the day, it will actually reduce battery life.
Using task killers goes directly against how Android is intended to work.

Thanks. That was really clear. I'll see what my battery usage is like without using the task killer.
Really hoping it helps out. my desire is almost dead and its only 930.
Is also ridiculous how quick you can type with swype. I feel like a swype fan boy. :P Posted via RS Mobile |

The best way to improve battery life is to cut down the amount of syncs your phone does. If you have multiple twitter apps, facebook, HTC's facebook, weather apps, stocks, news, etc, that all adds up to your phone connecting, logging on, downloading data, etc.
That is the #1 battery killer on a moderately used phone, IMO

you guys with battery life problems should check out Juice Defender. it shuts off your 3G data access when your screen is locked, except at predetermined times (say every 15 minutes or hour) when it allows apps to update. this helped me squeeze a few more hours out of my battery with my X10 back when i used to get about 8 hours of battery life per day.
now with the firmware update i get 48 hrs so it's not a concern anymore, but it's still an app worth having.

That won't work for a lot of people with the desire because they will likely be on telus. On telus they have no 3g fallback so 3g must be enabled the whole time Posted via RS Mobile |
