Episode 1 June 3, 2010
Spoiler!

Returning to Five this week for its 17th series is the fast-paced motoring magazine show hosted by Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson, Jason Plato and Jonny Smith. In this episode, Lewis Hamilton gives his verdict on an amazing new supercar, while Tiff and Vicki test out some of the latest super-speedy hatches. Elsewhere, Jason hits the Italian highways in a Ferrari 458 Italia, and Jonny takes a city car challenge.
Down at the track, Tiff and Vicki have been challenged to put four of the nippiest hatchbacks on the market to the test. The Ford Focus SR, the Mégane Renaultsport 250, the Mazda3 MPS and the Volkswagen Scirocco R are seriously hot property, but just how hot? To find out, Vicki and Tiff go head to head in a drag race and timed lap. For the ultimate test, the winning car then goes up against a powerful Porsche Boxster.
Meanwhile, Jonny examines a pair of city cars – the Smart ForTwo and the Toyota iQ. Both vehicles are small, sweet and just right for nipping about town. But are they any better than their iconic predecessor, the original Mini? Jonny completes a series of challenges that pit old against new to find out just how much difference 50 years can make.
Over in Italy, Jason gets behind the wheel of the supercar of the moment – the Ferrari 458 Italia. Valued at a cool £170,000, the Italia boasts stunning looks, breathtaking performance and a 560bhp engine.
Finally, Tiff talks to 2008 F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton about the British supercar threatening to take Ferrari’s crown. Lewis is one of the few people in the world to have driven the groundbreaking McLaren MP4-12C, and he tells Tiff first-hand what the soon-to-be iconic motor has to offer.

Episode 2 June 10, 2010
Spoiler!
Fast-paced motoring magazine show hosted by Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson, Jason Plato and Jonny Smith. In this episode, Jason heads to the Anglesey Circuit to test a pair of sports coupes, Vicki races from Paris to Monaco in a luxury Italian soft-top, Tiff and Jonny go electric for a trip across England and Jason examines a new British supercar.
This week’s ‘Fifth Gear’ kicks off in typically highoctane fashion with a shoot-out at the Anglesey Circuit. Returning to the spiritual home of the shoot-out, Jason pits a pair of nippy coupes against each other. Which will be faster round the famous Welsh track – Nissan’s new 370Z or the BMW Z4?
Not to be outdone by Jason, Vicki crosses the Channel to test Maserati’s brand new GranCabrio – the Italian manufacturer’s first four-seater cabriolet. The £100,000 supercar boasts an impressive 4.7 litre V8 engine and a top speed of 175mph. But is the machine fast enough to take Vicki from Paris to Monaco before nightfall?
Swapping petrol for electricity, Tiff and Jonny embark on a marathon journey that will test their vehicle – and their patience – to the limit. The pair intend to drive from Newcastle to Portsmouth in an electric car – but are there enough charging points up and down the country to complete the 400-mile journey?
Finally this week, Jason gets his hands on Britain’s newest supercar, the £200,000 Noble M600. The Noble features a Volvo 4.4-litre V8 that delivers up to 650bhp. The powerful engine combined with the lightweight carbon-fibre body gives the M600 a top speed of 225mph, and shifts it from 0-60 in three seconds. In an effort to reach the 200mph mark, Jason takes the car to Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicestershire, home to one of Britain’s longest straights.

It's a totally different show. TG is first and foremost an entertainment program, which just happens to revolve around cars. From my limited viewing of FG, it is actually produced to offer insight and relevant consumer information on cars in the market.

Episode 3 - June 17
Spoiler!
The motoring thrills and spills continue apace with Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson, Jason Plato and Jonny Smith. In this episode, Tiff and Jason go head to head in a pair of tasty roadsters, Vicki examines a range of compact family cars, Johnny looks at two extremes of Scandinavian engineering and Jason takes to the mountains to test an Italian supercar.
This week’s ‘Fifth Gear’ kicks off with another highspeed automotive dogfight. Jason and Tiff take to the track in a couple of £100,000 supercar roadsters – the Porsche 911 Turbo cabriolet and the Audi R8 V10 Spyder cabriolet. On paper, there is very little between these two machines. The R8’s meaty V10 produces 518bhp, compared to the Porsche’s 500bhp. However, the Porsche boasts 479lb/ft of torque, while the R8 puts down only 391lb/ft. After a drag race and a timed lap, which of these German drop-tops will come out in front?
While Jason and Tiff play around in their supercars, Vicki finds herself testing the comparatively unglamorous Nissan Cube. This distinctive mini MPV certainly looks unique, but is it actually any good? Vicki tries to ignore the Cube’s odd appearance as she compares the Japanese motor with its main rivals in the MPV market.
Elsewhere this week, Jonny examines two extreme examples of Volvo engine technology – the massive 13-litre diesel units on board a hi-tech yacht, and the small 1.6-litre engine of the S80. It is clear the huge luxury yacht delivers comfort and performance in equal measure, but does the midsize executive saloon?
Finally, Jason takes to the Italian mountains to test the latest offering from Lamborghini – the flamboyant Gallardo Superleggera. Priced at around £180,000, this 5.2-litre V10 monster delivers 562bhp and goes from 0-62mph in an impressive 3.4 seconds. Does Jason have the skills to tame this powerful Italian bull?
