Just got the first one in Canada today, we are doing extensive final testing and if its all good, it will be here VERY SOON

dohboi 06-24-2010 11:08 AM

After only 1 day of testing so far:

the person who testing the drone comments:

Its awsome and the GPS is very accurate, more accurate than his iPhone's GPS in terms of tracking and pin pointing the vehicle versus pin pointing the iPhone.

iPhone App is easy to use and configure.

Response time is expected 10seconds as service provider is using the text msging network to do the 2 way communication. Not bad at all!

Everything about it seems great so far, does what its promised to do.

Mugen EvOlutioN 06-24-2010 11:32 AM

damn keep us posted

im really excited

dohboi 06-24-2010 12:25 PM

Oh forgot,

Install was a snap. Small Box. If you are using a current Compustar system that has a RS232 port, you plug in the port and then its hardwire Constant Power and Ground and mount the box! No gps antenna mounting required. Simple!

also can be used as standalone but requires much more installation.

You can still access all the control from a smart phone by web browsing.
But it would be 10 times better/faster if you just got the APP for the iPhone or Balckberry or Drone when it comes out

Mugen EvOlutioN 06-24-2010 01:33 PM

got it

guess i better get a iphone than, say good bye to SE smart phone

can u pm me the price?

right now i got the latest compustar 2 way pager, pro i think is called?

Your question is moreso directed at:

Instead of carry the 2 way compustar remote around with me can I just use the DRONE to replace the remote and do all the same functions.

Its a great question and its something I was considering to do myself personally and it probably still is something im considering to do.

What I would do personally is carry the remote anyway. The reason for this is simple:

The Regular Compustar 2 way Remotes communicate from the remote to the antenna and if you purchase the FM model up to 5000ft of range, depending on conditions.

The Drone with your iPhone/Blackberry/Done app works a little different. It communicates from your phone to the Rogers network and then to your vehicle, which gives you almost unlimited range.

The downfall to using this to replace your remote is that if you park your vehicle deep underground, where there is no service, you cannot communicate to your car from your Drone App even if you're standing infront of your car. The drone app will attempt to send commands to the Rogers Network then back to your vehicle and vice versa.

As well, some peolpe have mentioned, what if your cell phone battery is dead.
Great point, but at the same rate, what if your battery in your Compustar Remote dies?

Compustar still has that manuall override feature to get into your vehicle and disable your alarm system.

So that being said, I would personally probably go without a remote as a rarely ever park underground and park unground far enough that my vehicle and my cell phone would receive no reception.

Hope this clears it up for all those who are interested.

threezero 06-24-2010 03:56 PM

^^ Yea I rarely park so far underground that there is no signal. I've never had an aftermarket alarm because i HATE all the cheap looking remotes. So I don't know if the second part of my question even applys. What I want to do is use my factory keyless entry fob so I can sitll have all the factory stuff like keyless entry, welcome lights, the use of the lock/unlock button on the door handle of the car etc. What I want with the drone is the ability to track my car, lock/unlock car from afar, rolling up the windows and of course all extra sensor that the factory alarm system don't have.

in the case that my cell battery dies I can still use my OEM keyfob? is that possible?

Yes you can use standalone mode, without having to add a compustar alarm. Disadvantages would be you would not get 2 way alerts if your alarm was triggered, and if you do not have remote start then thats obvious and no 2 way confirmation of arm and disarm.

But it can be a standalone system with no alarm so that you can use your factory alarm and keyless still without interference.

I just snapped some photos, will post soon

threezero 06-24-2010 04:44 PM

So what you mean if i want all the compustar alarm features there is no way I would be able to use my OEM keyfob? So if I want to keep using my OEM key fob i have to forfeit all the alarm features you mention?

dohboi 06-24-2010 04:47 PM

I don't have webspace to upload images, does someone have ones that can help me upload it so i can link it to this page?

email address plse!

wat about my question

dont quote me on this but i only have a rough idea.

It may be in the $350 - $400 msrp

You can contact any Compustar Pro dealer once its released.

It will work with the latest Compustar Pro.
Installation on top and subscription on a yearly basis.

VERY reasonable subscription price

if you install say a compustar alarm and remote start unit with the drone.

Your oem key fob would not be able to arm or disarm the Compustar alarm portion. it would probably still lock and unlock the vehicle but would trigger the alarm as if someone was breaking into your vehicle.

you could however just rely on using the drone and your smart phone to arm and lock or disarm and unlock and remote start.

dohboi 06-24-2010 07:09 PM

oh i left out,

with your smart phone like Iphone and in the future blackberry and drone,
you must have a data plan for this to work

catalin 06-24-2010 08:34 PM

The Compustar have arm/disarm inputs don't they?? Meaning that you can arm/disarm with a factory remote. I've never really wired one this and I've always been curious to know if it's possible to do it and not have the Compustar system react by pressing the lock/unlock switch in the doors.

No GPS antenna to mount, that means it's in the box and has to be mounted up high in the dash right??

Or is it location strickly by cellular triangulation??

Yes I've thought of doing that, but I dont like it as of that security risk of hitting unlock inside on the door panel and diarming the alarm. I never like this route.

This is strictly an educated guess but I think it uses both. I don't believe it was mounted high in the dash eiher. The accuracy is phenomenal. You'll see as OG will post the pics soon. Its within like 3 feet of accuracy.

Its possible to disable unlocking with the aftermarket alarm by wiring a relay to the unlock wireand the starter kill output. Then again you may find that your vehicle may already disable unlock when the doors are locked remotely. Try it by reaching in through an open window after locking with the factory keyless remote. J

Most will use both, gsm for communication and sattelites 'gps' for location.
