Then toward the end of its life I believe Supra also had V8s before being transplanted into the SC430.
Some interesting things about JGTC/SuperGT,
-The last ever race of the legendary McLaren F1 GT-R were the 2005 Team Take One/ Hitotsuyama Racing machines
-GT300 Impreza was the only 4WD car in all of JGTC/Super GT
-GT300 Legacy B4 is Front Engine/RWD + Turbo Boxer 4
-GT300 Celica was Front Engine/RWD
-GT300 IS350 is Mid Engine/RWD
-GT300 Corolla Axio is Mid Engine/RWD
-GT500 GT-R (R35) is using a 3.4L V8 (2009 was 4.5L V8)
-GT500 NSX used a 3.5L V6 making over 500PS
-GT500 HSV-010 is using a 3.4L V8 from Formula Nippon
-GT300 Mooncraft Shiden doesn't have a road car counterpart (It is a modified and rebranded Riley Technologies Daytona Prototype)
-GT500 machines can generate twice its own weight in downforce at around 200km/h
-Lamborghini Murciélago's first ever win in history was in GT300
McLaren F1 GT-R is still the only non Japanese car to win in GT500
GT500 are one of the fastest GT car in the world (2004 FIA GT-1 winner Team Goh Maserati MC12 Corsa falls behind 1-2 seconds every lap)
-Super GT accept entry of race cars from other series (DTM, FIA GT)
-GT300 machines are roughly the equivalent of GT-1
-When (racecar-engineering.com) asked Dome’s Hiroshi Yuchi whether the Dome-Honda NSX GT500 cars could lap faster than an Aston Martin DBR9 or a Corvetter C6-R his response was simple “easy”.
-There are plans to consolidate GranAM, DTM, and Super GT into a single series with unified regulations starting in 2012 and fully unite in 2015.
-In total over 18 manufacturers fielding over 24 different models of cars.
-In total there are 6 tire manufacturers
-Teams are allowed to swap any engines as long as it is made by the same manufacturer of the car.
