nico's ride on nc.org

Hella Flush looks bad-ass. But you have to be able to accept everything that comes with it... higher chance of VI's, wearing your tires, etc.

oh and I just threw this one in for fun

Thanks for the comments guys. That Charger SRT is nice!

cvm I was wondering what happened to my SC400! I hear you it became such a pain to drive because of how low the kit was sitting. Not a good DD. Is it around the lower mainland still?

I really miss my RL. It was sitting on Anceltion coilovers and Wed Kranze Rapier. Sold it to get an F50 and haven't got the stance going yet.

was is the requirement for a car to be hella flush? does it have to have flush wheels + lower + crazy camber? or wheel + lower or just perfectly flush wheels?

hellaflush = low, wheel poke.

massive camber not required, but most people do cause they wanna fit wider wheels

Defining Hellaflush
Submitted by mark fatlace on May 11, 20
10

So I think it’s about that time of year when we define what Hellaflush it. People ask us all the time what it is so for those of you that don’t know, the Hellaflush Term was coined by our friend Jerry. He called out our drift cars, which back in 2004, were mimicking Japanese drift car style. The style was kitted and slammed with baller 3-piece step lip wheels. The Japanese drifters had offsets that were very close to their fenders which was achieved by aggressive offsets and stretching tires. We didnt have a word for it so he said the word “Hellaflush” and the term was coined.

Mitsuru Haraguchi’s Badass FC. Probably the lowest and one of the baddest drifters of them all.

The URL was purchased late in 04 and was all about our friends cars, cars we’ve seen around town and in our travels to Japan. From Ziptied to Logan’s blog, it was like a secret society but obviously the movement of getting the right offset for cars has exploded thru the years. We were doing agressive offsets before Hellaflush on our Audis and VW’s. I had a site called Audiwerks in 1999 and we really pushed the limits of offsets on our cars.

Today, alot of other sites have popped up like Stanceworks and Slamburglars in 09 to the newer sites like Canibeat, Stance:Nation and everyday more are putting their twist to the term. I could say it’s a trend but more and more OEM companies like BMW have been offering really good offsets with suspension to match. It’s only about time til when the other manufacturers catch on and the style will be seen in everyday cars. If that happens, our job is done, we’ll be happy and will probably have caught onto another style of tuning and Antonio Alvendia of Motormaven’s can rest a happy man. He’s another guy that’s been pushing Zero Offset from the beginning of time.

Sure there’s alot of hate out there. If there wasn’t hate, we wouldnt be doing it, right? I had an Evo in 05 with 18×9.5 +12′s and the entire Evo forum community tripped out (minus the guys that knew what was up from seeing the Japan Time Attack Evo’s). Today, 18×9.5′s +12s are the first things that come to mind when looking for wheels for an Evo. (Well, for those that know.) The Wrong Fitment forum was born due to the fact alot of the Subaru community didn’t understand what was going on. There’s still a big debate til this day on the Nasioc forums.

The evo

Anyways, here’s our definition of what we’ve been pushing and enjoying for a little over 6 years. First of all, It’s not suppose to be MEGA SERIOUS. It’s a movement that we and alot of people ENJOY and have FUN with. From the Meets to the people, it’s all fun. Not everyone has money for $5k rims so people work with what they have and can afford. It’s not about supporting the FAKE ASS WHEEL company but its more about being apart of the movement. The rules are simple. Hellaflush / Flush, Superdumped, or Poke/Mexi pretty much define it. To achieve anyone of these deals with math. So if you’re good at it, you can achieve greatness. Jay Pizarro is one of the guys that taught me a few things about offsets and you can see right away from his builds he knows what he’s doing.

Hellaflush. To have your car slammed to the point where your Rim barely clears your rear fender. A decent amount of stretch tire and when rolling on the street, NO RUB. Drifting while Hellaflush is probably the best feeling out there. You know your car not only looks good but with good drifting style (even if its in the parking lot) produces great photos. Ask the Risky Devils guys, ask the Driftunit Kids, ask Team Kamikaze. It’s all win. Flush is achieved by not being super dumped. Alot of daily drivers that think they’re Hellaflush, are usually Flush. It’s a fine line.

2 examples of Hellaflush. An older Risky Devil Car.

Superdumped / Tucked. Usually cars with bags can achieve 2 looks (err 3 if you consider 4×4 one). They can adjust their ride height with the touch of a button. They can go from being Hellaflush to Tucked in about a second. Most people that see photos on our site that are Superdumped or Tucked wonder why they’re on this site. Well, if you read this definition, you’d know why. Again, math kids. Math.
slammed

Poke / Mexi-Flush. There is no excuse for having cars POKE unless you’re really going for this look. Most cars that do poke KNOW they’re doing it and they LOVE it. You don’t have to tell them. They haven’t missed the beat, they want the style or have plans for a major fender pull or over fenders. Im a huge fan on this style on VW’s and love seeing it on certain cars. Mexi-flush (we didnt make this word up) is a bit more exaggerated in the rear but you get the idea. USUALLY, all 4 wheels are poking out which is a bit weird but works on certain styles of cars.

Again, this isn’t suppose to be too serious. These are just words that are used to describe the styles of cars we see on the road today. There are tons of other words like stance, sunken, static, etc etc.. but really we’re all shooting for one goal and that’s to make our cars look as dope as possible. Some people don’t get it, some people do and really, its all a matter of taste. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to Hellaflush in the past and present and to all the bloggers who make it happen.

Only one problem with Haraguchi's car.

That thing sucked while drifting, but looked fucking awesome while it sucked. The other factor was that it was a FC, and it was constantly spin happy.

He also worked on spacing the subframe so that the Chassis sits higher, but all that he was left with was a car that had to be even lower just to achieve the same stance. It didn't handle any better, but he did save his framerails.

Not exactly a Drift Legend, and definitely not the best driver. He was however, the guy who had the most badass looking car, and worked hard to make the car work with his style. He "got better" when he raised his car a bit. Which is why you don't see the Pros having cars that look anything CLOSE to his FC.

Except for maybe Matt Powers.

Car looks different now, but he's one of the very few who made it work. If he raised it a bit, he would probably stop crashing and breaking things.

Then there's Tommy Roberts and Justin Pawlak.

I'm pretty sure Matt daily drove the S14 at that height for a few years at that height too. SO there you have it. Daily driveable, and works on the track. Hate on, haters.

The OG Hella

Quote:
This is for you people that think the word “HELLA” started in Northern California. The first time I came across the word was during a trip overseas in the 80′s. I would see cars with either Hella or PIAA covers over their fog lights. I think it was the cool thing to do with cars back then so I bought a pair.

These days you rarely see fog light covers on street cars unless they’re on some outdoor type suv or weekend rally car. Anyways, check out this might flush Action Express Racing Cayenne powered Daytona Prototype rocking some Hella lights.

HELLA Lights started in 1899. Yes, 1899. The word HELLA was used for their first headlights in 1908. Crazy right? Here’s another from Brumos.
