People too lazy to carry around a dedicated phone and iTouch. Plus they want to be able to show off their iPhone to all their friends. :lol

Ah, now I get it

Manually changing the APN on the iphone to block data is so easy to do on your own. Don't see what the worry is.

by your logic, why bother even paying for voice network? just connect to wifi and use skype or some sort of similar program.

Because wifi is not "everywhere" and the real reason people are needlessly buying iphones was mentioned above ;)

skype for outgoing is fine, it lags a bit but it's cheap

incoming - you have no number. You think ppl can or want to call your skype id when they're on a voice network?

wifi is everywhere enough for data, but if you wanna pay for a data plan, go ahead. i don't need to look shit up while i drive.

threezero 06-19-2010 11:07 PM

^some nav app needs data to work. Also most people uses 3g in places that don't have wifi such as doctor's office, restaurant and outing with friends. Say you are out with your friends eating and you guys suddenly decide to watch a movie, like most restraurant there is no wifi. You can save the day and use 3g to check movie times. Also useful when you are a passenger and the driver is either really dull or the car is really dull... you can pass the time browsing RS.

The use are endless, you really can't appreciate its usefulness until you actually use it. Wifi is not everywhere, you have to be near or around the access point.

thats what im saying. according to you wifi is everywhere so its easily accessible. then why bother pay for a voice plan? just connect to wifi and connect to skype or similar program.

the reason why people pay for a data plan is because wifi is not accessible to them when they demand it.

i've had free phone + plan before. Unlimited data is nice, i know, esp if someone else is footing the bill.. but for me if i'm paying my own bills, it's definitely not worth the ripoff costs here because i can go into a coffee shop after i eat if i really need data. For those other times, oh well, i survive somehow. Maybe it's cuz i'm a cheap mofo :)

I was trying to say (lazily) that skype doesn't work with incoming calls because you don't have a number. How do you expect ppl to call you? Not everyone is on data or wants to bring up skype to call you.

When i said wifi is everywhere, i implied data is around enough that you can survive without 3G.. you just need to be creative. I spent two seconds on that post, man. Don't grill me on word choice!

can't wait to buy it
have to buy it full price from apple since my plan is too cheap for subsidized pricing :p
but it'll be unlocked which is awesome

I've held off on the iphone since the first one. Now seems like a perfectly good time to jump on the apple bandwagon

Tim Budong 06-20-2010 01:16 PM

im tryin to secure my hands on a UK unlocked iPhone ahhaha

The_Situation 06-20-2010 08:56 PM

Will the iPhone 4 be capable of saving contacts directly to the sim card unlike its predecessors?

typ. 06-20-2010 09:53 PM

^ There's an app for that. :P

The_Situation 06-20-2010 09:56 PM

really? what's it called and is it free?

typ. 06-20-2010 10:00 PM

I'm not sure. I remember there being an app for the 2g called iSim but you had to be jailbroken. Maybe it's the same one for 3g?

Oh yeah, when is the iPhone 4 coming out in Apple.ca?

i can care less if i show off an iphone or not. seriously after a month the novelty of showing it off wears off and you begin to realize how convenient all the apps are. I never had data on my iphone but i found it super handy. From the notepad to the level, and even the flash light. There is just so much you can do with it. And why would i carry a regular phone and then an extra Ipod touch when i can have both in an iphone.

If non-network apps are your main concern, then it would be worth owning an Itouch for, because they are faster than the 3G and cheaper.

.Renn.Sport 06-21-2010 06:53 AM

damn... iOS 4 is still not live on itunes yet

Simplex123 06-21-2010 07:21 AM

^ I saw on PCWorld, they said expect it to be up 10 PST

danny_d19 06-21-2010 12:52 PM

Updated my 3GS this morning. The multi tasking is actually a bit weird. It keeps EVERYTHING open in the back ground unless you manually close it from the multi tasking list. Maybe I just haven't found any other way to close the apps yet...still playing around with it.

again, it makes no sense to carry an ipod + another phone, when i can pay $200 more to have both in one.
