iPhone 3G for almost 2 years now. Not a single scratch on the screen and I use my phone in the shop with dirty hands all the time. My kids (4 & 7) play with both my and my wife's iPhone 3G all the time. Lots of fingerprints, stains and sticky residue on both phones, but still no scratches.

You'd have to be an idiot (IMO) to scratch your phone. I'd love to know what this guy did to scratch his (convenient he doesn't actually say what scratched his).

I've seen a iPhone get dropped once from that height end up with a cracked screen, a friend of mine dropped his while txting in the club and it cracked instantly so I dunno how durable any iPhone really is

why do people bitch about durability?.iphones arent made to be dropped repeatedly or any phone for that matter.Go buy a 5 dollar shell/case from nightmarket. If you cant $5 bux then u cant afford an iphone.

what if it was accidentally dropped, over time. wouldnt you want to know what will happen if it gets dropped X amount of times before it acutally gives up

DanHibiki 06-24-2010 06:17 AM

Well, a lot of people hate wearing condoms but in the end there are consequences for you to deal with.

:)

!LittleDragon 06-24-2010 08:37 AM

Yeah, I hate having a case on my phone. The only reason I have one on my Milestone right now is because it has to be in mint condition so I can sell it in 6 months. It's only to tie me over til I can get a Fido subsidized iPhone 4... which I'll be trading for the best Android phone out at the time

freakshow 06-24-2010 09:17 AM

I would laugh if their official solution was 'buy a case'.. although that doesn't seem so far fetched..

hongy 06-24-2010 09:41 AM

^^ Isn`t that the reason why they came up with that bump case.

I think any phone with a glass screen is going to crack if you drop it - it's kinda expected. Go look at some of the Droid forums. Plenty of Droids (that use the same Gorilla glass) have shattered screens from being dropped.

Glass is going to break if you drop it. It's a problem inherent with it being glass. It's not purely an Apple iPhone thing.

!LittleDragon 06-24-2010 10:28 AM

This is what Gorilla Glass is supposed to do.

thats one of the main things that bugging me too, the discoloration of the screen.

According to a forum post at AppleInsider:

"Apple is using a bonding agent called Organofunctional Silane Z-6011 to bond the layers of glass. Apparently, Apple (or more likely Foxconn) is shipping these products so quickly that the evaporation process is not complete. However, after one or two days of use, especially with the screen on, will complete the evaporation process and the yellow "blotches" will disappear. How do I know? I was involved in pitching Z-6011 to Apple."

Mugen EvOlutioN 06-24-2010 01:55 PM
