WhatsApp is pretty good, chat, send video, pics, audio, vcards or even you location. Don't need to add any one, automatically scans your address book, shows msg delivery status like bbm, no sign in needed, there's also a version for BB, does push notifications and multitasking.

Does it work over wifi/data or is this another SMS program?

Works over wifi and or data. I use it with data but have some friends that are wifi only. The sever stores the message and will deliver it when they are connected to wifi.

nope, its .99 in the app store and it costs $2.99 for blackberry. not sure about android

Just use MSN, it's free for all platforms, and can be synced with your PC too.

I heard about that app I'll probably pick it up, as for msn a lot of people I know never use msn anymore

Whatsapp is awesome, not having to sign on or add contacts is reason enough to buy it. Plus all the other features make it a no brainer. I hope the app gets bought by apple and rebranded as iChat for iPhone, the integration is great, this type of thing should have been offered by apple from day one.

I love being able to send pics over data/wifi as opposed to mms, also sending your gps location is handy. That reminds me of a demo video for the nokia n95 that I watched years ago, people hanging out sending their location and their friends using the data to get directions.

thing is, the whatsapp is only a trial now! you have to purchase it after the trial! :(

man, have to wait till end of July and we are just right next to US.

I love the design and feature set of the new iPhone but the antenna issue is BS. I'm going to hold off until they fix things...

you can already do this with Google Latitude, which is integrated into Google Maps for quick directions. been using this for a while now for that exact purpose.

It might even be later than July because on the apple site it went from "Coming in July" to "Coming Soon".
