^ Pretty good video for being shot on a cell phone.
What's really funny is reading all the Apple haters posting comments on Youtube about how the video must be fake and some of the shots were done by other cameras blah blah blah....
What's worse: the fanboy who buys a product simply because it's made by a certain company or the haters who blindly criticize any product from a certain company without even trying it out? Or when a product does a great job at a certain task they have to claim fake instead of giving credit where it's due.
Seriously, the haters are getting a little tiring. You go into any thread on any forum about the iPhone and the haters outnumber the fanboys by at least 10:1. Go check out Tom's and click on any iPhone thread for numerous examples. So who's more pathetic? I'd say the haters.

I couldn't agree with you more. I'm no Apple fanboy (I'm a BB user) but it almost absurd how many anti-Apple fanboys hop on the bandwagon because "it's what the cool kids do" and not because of any specific technical reason.
Apple has built up a huge user base with the iPhone which has spurned a big developer base (and as a result a large number of apps) as well as a huge hacking community. This is good for progress from a technical and from a user perspective. People (at a consumer level) are now flocking to smart phones (Apple or otherwise) and are becoming more technically aware because of the iPhone.
There's no denying that the iPhone has it's faults, but in all fairness, it's issues are the same that almost all other smart phones have as well. The industry needs companies like Apple to make smart phones (and the associated features) popular to spurn innovation and bring new features to the general public. Otherwise smart phones will just be the domain of tech geeks and the business users and technical innovation in the smart phone market will become stagnant.
The iphone 4 isn't a bad phone, like any other phone out there issues with it. I don't necessarily hate the iPhone 4 but what is god damn annoying is the way Apple treats its products. In all their advertisements apple has claimed that the iPhone revolutionized the world as if they created the worlds first phone or something. It didn't. What it did was popularized touch screen and brought it to the general public. It also started the whole shitty "look we got a screen and one/two/three/four buttons on the bottom and that's our phone" design. Apple did finally release a statement in regards to the iPhone 4 reception issue and their findings was that the iPhone doesn't have a reception issue, it has an issue with displaying the correct amount of bars. That means when you touch the bottom and the bars drop from 4/5 to 1/2, the phone actually had 1/2 bars the entire time, it was just to fucked up to display it correctly.
side note: I saw the new ads for the iPads and wtf? Magical? Revolutionary? fuck that.
Edit: Here's a link to their statement to the iphone 4 issues
This here is my favourite:

To start with, gripping almost any mobile phone in certain ways will reduce its reception by 1 or more bars. This is true of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, as well as many Droid, Nokia and RIM phones. But some users have reported that iPhone 4 can drop 4 or 5 bars when tightly held in a way which covers the black strip in the lower left corner of the metal band. This is a far bigger drop than normal, and as a result some have accused the iPhone 4 of having a faulty antenna design.
At the same time, we continue to read articles and receive hundreds of emails from users saying that iPhone 4 reception is better than the iPhone 3GS. They are delighted. This matches our own experience and testing. What can explain all of this?
We have discovered the cause of this dramatic drop in bars, and it is both simple and surprising.
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength.

Apple is a marketing machine. I think any manufacturer is going to tout their phone as being the best - it's what you got to do to sell your product. I can't blame them for that. It's advertising. You so what you can to differentiate your product/make it sound better than the next. Smart consumers can make the decision on whether to believe the hype and marketing.
The reception issue I have to admit is a cop out. They say it's a signal strength calculation problem? It's almost like saying that the provider is at fault here. Not a nice thing to do to their partners but it's probably because Apple has the service providers by the balls. We'll have to see in the future how it pans out.
So manufacturer's should say things like "our product is only average"? It's what companies do - try to make their product as attractive as possible.
And there is a reception issue - it's just been blown out of proportion by the scaling of the signal bars. The first 4 bars represent 5.5dBm each and the 5th bar is a whopping 40dBm. So if you bridge the antenna and cause 20dBm signal drop, then you lose 3-4 bars. If the bars were spaced properly, then that same 20dBm drop would only show 1 or 2 bars, and poeple would never have noticed it.
What I have yet to see in the hater videos is an iPhone with 5 bars that still shows 5 bars when holding the antenna. This is very possible as the last bar represents a 40dBm range, and you could easily drop 20dBm in a high signal strength area and still show 5 bars.
From Anandtech:
From my day of testing, I've determined that the iPhone 4 performs much better than the 3GS in situations where signal is very low, at -113 dBm (1 bar). Previously, dropping this low all but guaranteed that calls would drop, fail to be placed, and data would no longer be transacted at all. I can honestly say that I've never held onto so many calls and data simultaneously on 1 bar at -113 dBm as I have with the iPhone 4, so it's readily apparent that the new baseband hardware is much more sensitive compared to what was in the 3GS. The difference is that reception is massively better on the iPhone 4 in actual use.
With my bumper case on, I made it further into dead zones than ever before, and into marginal areas that would always drop calls without any problems at all. It's amazing really to experience the difference in sensitivity the iPhone 4 brings compared to the 3GS, and issues from holding the phone aside, reception is absolutely definitely improved. I felt like I was going places no iPhone had ever gone before. There's no doubt in my mind this iPhone gets the best cellular reception yet, even though measured signal is lower than the 3GS.
Anandtech still says Apple should put a coating on the antenna to eliminate the signal drop, but it's apparent the iPhone 4 has some damn good hardware inside.
I was at an apple store and AT&T store this weekend and played with the iPhone 4. It's a beautiful piece of hardware, feels great in your hands, ifeels slimmer than prev generations and in my testing did not drop calls. I tried cupping the bottom left corner, holding the phone in my left hand and touching the black strip to short the two antennas and nothing... No signal loss or dropped calls. Posted via RS Mobile
Holding a call at -113 dBm (although I don't trust bar indicators) and still having it perform is pretty impressive considering a few yrs ago, most phones would have given up demodding any thing usable at -107 or likely higher, where you'd hear nothing but distortion.
As for the haters, I learned when I was looking for a laptop anything and everything they say is pretty much garbage. They just repeat what's on the internet and don't bother to evaluate shit themselves.
When is the iphone4 coming for fido? Using my old 9700 since I lost my 3gs yesterday. No point in buying a 3gs if the 4 is coming within a week or two. Posted via RS Mobile

The same time that iphone4 comes to everyone else. Supposedly end of July or beginning of August.
