if you bought your phone from rogers/fido can you go to the apple store for a exchange/replacement?

do you have to bring anything with you? i think i lost my receipts and such

ddr 08-07-2011 10:49 PM

i don't think so. if it was bought on contract they only need your phone number to pull up your info. and i guess your email (apple id) or name to pull up your other info, and they'll just match up your serial. not sure how all this works when you buy one that's second hand though.

Nope. Don't even need to bring the box just the phone itself is all you need.

I went in once for a new phone exchange.

I asked the guy if they are new or refurbished. He said brand new....

Then I asked him how do I believe you?

He went to the back asked a manager something... came back with a brand new iPhone in box

Even let me keep the accessories.

How do you know that even the new phone in the box wasn't refurbed? Do they have to mark it onto the box or something?

Replacement iphone's come in black boxes without accessories.

The one he gave me was at the counter in a brand new box which was still shrink wrapped.

i dried it with rice and silica for 4 days and tried to turn on my phone yesetrday but no dice.

LED stays on when its charging or as long as it has power but phone couldnt be turn on at all.

what should i do now ?

i presume this will only work with some apps + you need to buy the keyboard/bluetooth app thing from cydia

Vansterdam 08-09-2011 06:26 AM

has anyone tried exchanging their black iphones for a white one from apple?

i was gonna try and get a new unit and say my old one is defective, and then offer to pay extra to get the white one or try and get it switched for free.

No, you can't do this. Every model of everything is a different model. So even the 16GB black and 32GB black are considered different products.

It would be like having a defective iPhone and trying to swap for an iPad. At least, this is what the system sees.

G 08-09-2011 11:35 AM

^I called and ask since I wanted to know if I could get an exchange since my iphone4 has a stuck pixel. They said no. :(

Greenstoner 08-10-2011 07:29 AM

pretty noob question, i've never done a "restore" on itune before

does it wipe out eveyrthing in the phone ?

pictures, videos, notes and most importantly my contacts ?

Not if you've sync'd the phone to the computer previously. For example, when I got my iPhone replaced due to defective button, I took the new unit home and did a 'restore' on it. All the app data, email, contacts, msgs, everything was restored.

This is because I sync'd the old phone right before I brought it in to get it replaced.

G 08-10-2011 08:23 AM

^What if the old synced phone was an older OS and was jailbroken? What would sync if I connected the new unit at home?

Also, another noob question: My phone is currently running 4.2.1 (yea, very old) and jailbroken. I have two stuck pixels so I want to return it to the apple store. Would I just plug in my iPhone and click update (for the OS) and let it do it's thang? I don't really need anything saved except my contacts..

Instructions?

I guess update to the latest version, turn on sync contacts and apps, (and maybe music too).

I never sync music personally, I like to control manually the songs that go on the iPhone since it's a lot different than my library on my main computer.

When you plug in your iPhone doesn't it say 'backing up', etc. Ie, everytime you plug in, it should be backing up the content.

Greenstoner 08-10-2011 09:02 AM

Ive sync my phone yesterday for the first time. The apps were back up but i didnt see any contacts, pictures and notes saved anywhere on itune ?

JesseBlue 08-10-2011 09:04 AM

i think you'd only see that part when you recover, don't you?

Greenstoner 08-10-2011 09:33 AM

^If thats the case i will just give it a try..

i clicked on restore yesterday and a msg pop up "all media, files..blah blah on your phone will be wiped" please confirm

i got scared so i didnt proceed further. Got imporatnt data on my NOTES and didnt want to lose my contact. LOL

BillyBishop 08-10-2011 08:42 PM

I said this a few pages back I think, but it might help again.

I set up a GMail account solely for syncing contacts, notes, and calendar. (The three options that come with it.) This way, all my notes and calendar dates are sync'd between my iPhone and my iPad within minutes of changing them on one device. Contacts are sync'd right when I plug it into my computer.

This also means that if I do a complete reset of my iPhone (not from back-up), I still have my contacts, notes, and calendar intact and able to be easily sync'd directly from my GMail account.
