double the amount of ram (256mb vs 512mb), faster processor (A4), double the resolution(640x960), better battery, better camera w/ led flash(3.2mp vs 5mp) & extra front facing camera.

That's because the activation actually locks your currently unlocked iPhone to Rogers/Fido/Telus/Bell.

So they can't let you leave with an unlocked iPhone 4 at carriers :)

typ. 07-30-2010 10:29 AM

^ oh. so that's the secret. gay.. when will they be able to give it out then?

threezero 07-30-2010 10:43 AM

just tested my frd's 4g out, death grip does make it drop signal, sometimes even down to 1 bar but have not been able to get it to drop calls

didn't test mine out yet

Not true.

k2_alpha 07-30-2010 12:00 PM

no death grip issues with Bell at Broadway and Heather.

tested several customer's iPhone and no issue.

two out of the five phones did drop one bar but regained signal a second later.

stuff99 07-30-2010 12:40 PM

Think Apple fixed this issue internally with their new batch of phones or do we just have better cell networks up here in Canada?

Got the phone this morning w/ no line up at Oakridge Telus.. my first 3G phone, and man is it a world of difference from my old HTC diamond. Push e-mail is actually usable, browsing is awesome, input (text, etc) are blazing fast!

No death grip issue here!

so i can buy an iphone from the apple store, still get my HUP credit from fido, and it'll stay unlocked?

FN-2199 07-30-2010 02:58 PM

Wow, Rogers charged me the $159 fee "With new activation on a 3-year voice and data plan" when I already had a plan and was supposed to pay $399 for the hardware upgrade.

I guess the Rogers guy made a mistake! :haha:

Alpine50 07-30-2010 03:03 PM

^^^^^^ haha nice the new phone is pretty unreal don't know whether I'll upgrade to this or keep my 3G and have a blackberry too

tgill 07-30-2010 03:03 PM

just a reminder: Even if you're not having reception problems, make sure you guys download the case program to get your choice of free case or bumper for your iPhone 4.

No, and this is direct from the guys at apple. When you buy the phone outright with no contract at the apple store they put the phone on one receipt and the microsim on another, and thus that phone will remain factory unlocked.

If you upgrade your contract with any of the cellular providers at an apple store, your phone AND the microsim is combine into one receipt, the moment apple scan that into the system your phone is now lock to that microsim's provider.

You can do the activation at home or at apples it makes no difference because they lock the phone to the provider at the time of the purchase not at activation.

Don't do activations in store, you can easily do that yourself at home and the apple "activation genius" sure like to take their sweet time.

What if you buy it from the Apple website? Would you have to go to Rogers to buy the microsim? When you activiate it at home with the microsim (rogers) would it lock the phone again?

QUESTION:

Compare your 3g and 4 side by side... do you guys see that the 3g has a brighter and "cooler" coloured screen?

I am comparing it side by side, and I found

1. The display is "yellower" on the 4 compared to the bright white i see on the 3g
2. It seems the 4's display is a bit narrower (maybe illusion since the 4 is narrower)

anyone confirm?

typ. 07-30-2010 05:05 PM

^ LOl you are seeing things :P iphone 4's screen is way better..

can you see the difference in colour?

maybe that's because i didn't take off the protective film yet...

i dont have a iphone 4 to compare, but i noticed the same thing when i compared different iphone 3gs, i think its due to different batches of lcds the manufacture used. some have a cooler color while others have warmer colors.

on a side note, look at the craigslist prices for the iphone4, 900 for a 16gb and 1200 for a 32gb LOG

not sure but doesn't apple website only do device only with no contract? if so i reckon its is the same as in store than only they mail you the sim
