Hey guys,

I've been thinking of picking up a Nexus One (The Desire and the Galaxy S have been under consideration as well).

I'm new to Android phones, but I want to ask if everything you guys are doing to the Nexus One (Flashing/rooting/etc) can be done to the Desire/Galaxy S to the same level so to speak.

Tim Budong 08-09-2010 01:06 AM

The galaxyS will have customROM support soon
the desire has alot of custom roms along with the nexusone, nexusone and desire is essentially the same phone

i mean, i threw the desire rom on my N1 LOL

cspec 08-09-2010 07:13 PM

Thanks for the reply!

When you mean "essentially the same phone"... does that imply there would never be anything that can be done to the Nexus One that wouldn't work on the Desire?

I'm asking because since Google deemed the Nexus One as the developer phone, would there would be "more support" for it than the Desire?

well, there will be "support" as long as there are developers out there writing custom roms and enhance the experience for the N1 and the Desire.

For example, one of the premier devs for android, paulobrien of MODACO is now doin some pretty epic things with the GalaxyS and somewhat forgotten the N1/Desire crowd behind. But there are many great roms for all devices, just play around and find one you like! Im really liking the desire rom, love all the HTC widgets on them!

It works pretty well! Too bad it needs to process this online.

Tim Budong 08-12-2010 05:46 PM

i finally had the time to give the voice search a try
holyshit!
and from that, sold 2 acer liquid E out the door

"Typing" SMS's are awesome too. Just say "Send text to [contact name] blah blah blah" and it'll actually type out the whole thing for you.

Anyone know how I can get the "H" to show up for data access? I know you can get this by default from Cyanogen, but I'm on LeoFroyo right now and love it.

If you are on Leofroyo 2.0 you can switch between 3G icon and H icon under leoparts

guys im torn between staying with the nexus one or getting the galaxy s :(. after seeing that super amoled, i feel like i HAVE to have it. Yet some part me is gonna miss the nexus one. It's one of the best phones i've ever used...needless to say it has awesome build quality over the galaxy (metal vs plastic). what do u guys think? worth the trouble to go for a galaxy or wait it out until gingerbread/crazier android phones come out?

JKam 08-15-2010 09:13 PM

wait it out. That's what I'm doing right now.

MarkyMark 08-15-2010 09:50 PM

I think once you go with the galaxys screen you won't be able to go back to a regular amoled screen lol

I am, but can't comment on "how good" it is because I'm no a heavy user.
Most I do is customize to make it look pretty and just regular use of phone call, sms, facebook and web browsing.
All Froyo roms I tried were all fast enough for my needs:p

I'm probably going to flash it over to 2.0 tonight

Does it retain all my SMS messages?

I don't think it'll retain the SMS message. At least not for me.
Just get the SMS backup& restore from the market.

You still have to do a Nandbackup then wipe and flash upgrading to 2.0.
Anything after leofroyo 2.0 you can update and apply patch using built-in leoparts

Ch28 08-16-2010 05:55 PM

Damn

Better save some of those MMS pictures before I wipe :mamoru:

Gh0stRider 08-16-2010 09:10 PM

gonna give the new version of launcherpro plus a try.

lets your resize any widgets on the homescreens, not just launcherpro widgets.

I am...and it rocks. Love the battery life on this ROM. I used to get through most of the day and my battery would crap out, forcing me to go to my second battery. Ever since LeoFroyo 2.0, I'm doing full days and I'm only down to about 50-60% battery life!

Gh0stRider 08-17-2010 10:03 PM

installed leofroyo 2.0

dont like the white status bar
wont let me uninstall some stock apps.

w00tgasm 08-17-2010 10:12 PM

I'm getting bored of my Nexus One...

I realized that I'm not that much of a fan for touch screens.
