Loaded CM 6.1 RC1

now to set everything up again, and play around with the settings.

First thing i had to do was replace ADW with LauncherPro Plus

illicitstylz 11-09-2010 05:35 PM

So I'm getting my N1 tonight, I'm prepping to get it rooted and all set up for CM6.1
ROM (Cyanogen 6.1). 4 questions

1**Do I need to flash the following?

1) Kernels ([Kernel] [.35.8] intersectRaven's Kernel (HAVS-AXI-FM-BT-720p)11/07/2010 21:20)

2) Radios (Radio Update - 5.12.00.08 (from Korean Nexus))

3) Recoveries([Recovery] [21-Mar-2010] RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1)

????

2**Also, under these steps, when do i install the new "google addon"

Quote:

INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM 6 to your Nexus (or coming from another ROM)?
1. Unlock/root your device and install Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager or Amon_RA's recovery image
2. Do a Nandroid backup!
3. Update your radio if necessary
4. WIPE
5. Install the ROM
5. Optionally install the Google Addon

3** Does Superoneclick rooter flash a custom recovery image or do I need to Clockworkmod still?

4** Do i need android SDK? (to install the new radio versions)

3) Recoveries([Recovery] [21-Mar-2010] RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1)

1) I'm using the 2.6.35.7-cyanogenmod kernal

2) radio - 4.06

3) no idea lol

You flash the google apps after you've flashed the cyanogenmod rom. I like to power off after loading the rom and play aroudn to make sure everything is working fine. Then i'll boot into recovery and flash the google addon

illicitstylz 11-09-2010 07:05 PM

sounds like we don't need the android SDK then, how did you update your radio?

Quote:

Installing the Radio Update¶

2. put both the radio and update zips on your sdcard

3. power down your phone

4. Using the volume down key and power button to get to bootloader/recovery option screen
4a Use volume key to scroll and power button to pick

5. Go to flash zip from sdcard

6. Flash radio update zip first

7. After that is complete and you've restarted when it told you to do so.
Same procedure for flashing radio as flashing a ROM (but without the wipe) right?

Having trouble finding the 2.6.35.7-cyanogenmod kernal.. didn't have much luck going through google or the CM forums, and it's not listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744605 and it's not in the cyanogenmod github repository either.
I'm assuming the kernels are specific to the ROM?

i always flash recovery/radios thru adb method..seems the most stable for me

the adb method (Step 1 and 2 from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612858 ) is essentially the traditional/"manual" method

Whereas the clockworkmod is the "updated" and simpler method?

!MiKrofT 11-09-2010 07:41 PM

Adb is how Google intended it to be flashed. However I'm lazy and just use clockwork recovery.

I find adb to be very useful now that I know most of the commands just messing aroundwith it!

I realize to enjoy the phone more, breaking down an xml file and loading on ur own themes is so much fun

Too much for a simpleton like me :p

Just got my nexus one off -Paolo-, starting the modding as we speak.

Have to install androidSDK and hope it fixes my driver issues (isn't detecting my nexus one on my Windows 7)

If i'm on the stock ROM, and i'm going to CM 6.1, do I need a new kernel? It's not listed in the original post for CM6.1 though.

w00tgasm 11-09-2010 10:34 PM

Enjoy the phone =P

I'm debating if I should root the Desire Z...
There isn't a full one released yet, just temp root. but HTC Sense is freaking cool... I can lock and clear my phone remotely if I should lose it.

illicitstylz 11-09-2010 11:16 PM

Superoneclick root not working, program keeps hanging..

update: fixed, needed to install androidsdk drivers for proper connectivity to windows7

onwards to ROM flashing, should really be sleeping since i got class tomorrow haha.

stock kernel should be ok, unless it has a kernel built in already.

if not needed, then upgrade radio and flash the rom.

illicitstylz 11-10-2010 12:08 AM

having problems getting into recovery mode with clockwork mod :S

ROM Manager flashed the clockworkmod recovery successfully, but when I boot into recovery mode from ROM Manager, it goes to the android/exclamation mark screen, I push volume up + power, and it goes to the stock android recovery mode, can't do a Nandroid back up from that...

Gh0stRider 11-10-2010 12:10 AM

try going into recovery manually?

i got no exp wit clockwork :(

I can go into recovery manually but there's no backup options there.

So what I did was try Amon_ra (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611829)

Put the RA_xxxxxx.img into my androidSDK tools folder on my PC

Power up with trackball + power

Then I get lost at..
Quote:

fastboot devices (to make sure that fastboot "sees" your phone)
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1.img
Selecting fastboot just alternates me through the 2 menus, no option for "fastboot devices" nor "fastboot flash recover RA-nexus.xxxxx.img"

Which method do you guy by ghostrider?

Gh0stRider 11-10-2010 12:35 AM

go through fastboot, unlock boot loader. install superboot

Gh0stRider 11-10-2010 12:40 AM

contact Darthchilli.

he knows more about rooting, but hes kinda drunk right now..lol

illicitstylz 11-10-2010 12:55 AM

I'll tackle all that tomorrow, going to get some rest.

And to think, the clockworkmod was the easy way out...

Tim Budong 11-10-2010 01:23 AM

if u get this..then great..
anyways..I believe theres a different set of drivers for the SDK for windows7..not sure..since i did my root in either winXP or a mac

follow this guide. It goes thru the ADB method with visual, i followed this guide...but since this was wayy back then..theres some updated files in there.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636795

could be me..(most likely..from my half sober state) that the filename was incorrect when u tried to push recovery onto the phone..but it should be given that the file name replaces those Xs..

the RA ur running is hte latest one as well..shouldn't be a problem, im still on 1.8 or wutever the previous version of RAANOM is...

I find clockwork too dangerous to use.

once u push the recovery onto phone, boot it INTO recovery(there shoul dbe an option there to load into recover thru the bootloader screen) and DO A NANDBACKUP on r already customized rom.

you can go ahead to make an EXT3 or 4, but backup the memory card on a computer b4 atempting this..again..READ on ext3/4 and how it works iwth CM6.1.. ext3/4 is very sensitive to the rom itself and some might not support it

then flash CM6.1

He is recomending the 4.06 radio, but im on 5.06or whichever one was after and its fine.

as for kernals...
i can't stress this enough to all the people i've dealth with on the nexus..

READ THE GODDAMN THREAD FOR THE ROM AND KERNAL BEFORE FLASHING

a bad or incompatible kernal can do ALOT OF HARM to the phone..especially if ur planning on using apps like setCPU.

hopefully this helps..hard to focus on typing atm.

in clsing..learn how to push/pull ADBshell, that way, you can easily apply your own look/feel of the phone n a lot of the apps out tehre thru adp.

happy and safe rooting!

as for paolo..perma root for desireZ shoudl be coming soon..but i find it scary how theres not a lot of support for it

I did that 2 months ago and I can say that I'm having much more fun on the iPhone.
Got bored real quick from the constant ROM flashing and trying to find the "perfect" ROM.

Tim Budong 11-10-2010 02:25 PM

and after calling me a hypocrite for thinking the same thing kev..
tsktsk
