::The HTC Google NEXUS ONE Thread::

Hi guys,

I wanted to stop the phone whoring awhile ago and ever since the Nexus One has been released I refrained myself looking into the phone coz I know I will end up buying it.

Lately I heard lot's of good thing about 2.2 and Froyo and whatnot and finally caved in today and bought one at a good price.

I just came back from the Iphone 4 thread and saw that a member posting 720p video recording capability on a hacked Nexus One :eekthumb:.

I had a G1 (Dream) before but that was a while back and now I'm a little out of the loop of rooting and flashing the phone with different roms.
I will head over to XDA soon to read up on it but I want to make this little thread us to discuss and share some tips and tricks or apps.

Now who wants to start by posting some good tips and tricks while I'm still waiting for my phone to be shipped to me?

Gh0stRider 06-09-2010 03:02 PM

did you buy from google? or someone else?

how much did it come out to?

joquio 06-09-2010 03:09 PM

I bought mine from a member on Howard Forum.
Paid $500 shipped Express Mail.

Simplex123 06-09-2010 03:13 PM

When did you pay? Did he make you pay first before he shipped it?

joquio 06-09-2010 03:16 PM

I paid before he ships.
Just look for members that has been around long enough and ask for feedbacks if they have any.

If anything happens I can contact paypal about it.

JKam 06-09-2010 03:21 PM

seems like a bunch of us stopped whoring for a while haha. Did you consider the desire or was the nexus one your only choice?

Gh0stRider 06-09-2010 03:28 PM

ive bought off HF before, never had a problem. just look at their feedback

joquio 06-09-2010 03:28 PM

I chose Nexus One because I noticed that it was more popular and praised more ( i was considering X10 before too but heard that hardware wise it's not very good compared to Nexus One).

HTC Desire was released couple months later and I don't think you can buy this phone from Google nor is it easily available locally? Where would you buy this phone from anyways? AT&T carries this?

check out the differnt roms u can flash. using the desire rom myself (if u need sense widgets) and ive been hearing alot about the cyanogenmod as well. Besides flashing roms, ive also been trying out a diff launchers on the market, these r official market releases and dun require any hacking at all. so far launcherpro is one of the fastest and most stable ones, comparable to iphone OS speeds. Coupled with Froyo its insanely fast.

joquio 06-09-2010 03:38 PM

Mine comes with cyanogenmod flashed on it already.

What are "launchers"? Rom? or an App?

jeff19 06-09-2010 04:02 PM

Launchers are just home-screen replacements. There in the form of apps downloadable through the market. unlike roms, there is little modification of the software build (radio, kernel, etc. etc.). It just modifies the speed and look of the home screen and other minor aspects. Other launchers ived tried are Home++ and Helix Launcher. Home++ is reallli popular as well and has a diff look , but neither of them can compare to the speed/stability of launcherpro.

Sounds good.

Do they require a lot of memory?
Like, are they running in the background all the time?

Gh0stRider 06-09-2010 04:16 PM

i think i'll order mine next week.

does android have any native messaging programs or mostly 3rd party?

joquio 06-09-2010 04:19 PM

Any one have experience with Swype?
I just saw a youtube video and this seems pretty cool.

How usable is it?

Will you be selling your 9700?
I will decide which one to keep after I installed my white housing for the 9700 and played with the Nexus One for a bit.

iunno how much memory it uses, but its prolly not alot. it runs an top of ur current home and i think it suspends the one youre not using. Its like having a Sense android device and turning Sense on/off depending on whether u prefer stock android or not. Another good thing about launchers is that u can install as many as u like and switch between them anytime, theres no lag or slowdown at all. like having 3-4 OS's at the same time.

Don't bother with the HTC Desire as it doesn't have NA 3G bands. However the upcoming HTC Triumph from Telus which is the exact same phone will. Mind you these are basically the same phone as the Nexus One anyways.

rk604 06-10-2010 12:23 AM

Tip:

Go to Dial pad
Type: *#*#4636#*#*
Go to Phone information
Set the prefered network type to GSM Auto (PRL)

This supposedly saves battery life, and today was my first day with this setting, and indeed it does!

joquio 06-10-2010 09:57 AM

So if you changed it to GSM Auto will you still get 3G?
