370z vs 335i Hi guys, I am torn between these 2. I got a good deal for the 370z convertible. I really like both of their design. Any thoughts? |
335i but if $ is an issue, then get the 370z since you got a good deal on it. |

335i hands down. nowdays with procedev4 or Jb3 CHIP ONLY you can get 100+hp(80+WHP). and its VERY inexpensive(jb3=$349-pin out and procede=$1k). and the fit&finish on bmw just blow nissan away. the only thing 335i lacks of is LSD. but you can have it for $1100. even compare stock to stock, 335i wins in almost everyway already. |

335I I find it way classier and sporty than the 370z IMO |
^370 is definitely more sporty and driving oriented but coupe > convertible With the 335i you get 4 very usable seats and a more everyday car with better low end torque and tuning potential. Looks wise the 370 has an aggressive stance and looks like it means business but the 335 is very elegant. If you want a canyon carver get the 370 but if you want an everyday all around car get the 335i. |

370z is a solid car and I'm sure most would be thrilled to own one. But the 335i is a far better car in so many ways: it's more refined, has better road manners, better interior, better build quality, gets better fuel economy... and it's more of a pussy magnet, if you care about image. Unfortunately, the better vehicle is usually more expensive... and this is no exception. The BMW will be more expensive to buy and more expensive to maintain. Frankly, the 370Z is more comparable to the 135i than the 335i, as the 3-series is larger, has a usable back seat, and puts far more emphasis on creature comforts. The pricing is also closer between the 1-series and 370z. IMO, it's 335i vs. G37s vs. S3... and 135i vs. 370z vs. S5... |
I'm not a big fan of the VQ engines anymore either. The first VQ's were amazing back in 2003, but they have always lacked the smoothness and refinement of the straight-6. 350bhp is impressive, and frankly the 370z is probably a bit faster than the 335i in a straight line and maybe on the track, too... but the 335i can put out 100 more horsepower with very little effort or cost. Personally, I'd have the 370z over the 135i... but I'd take the 335i over both the 370z and the G37s in a heartbeat. |

The Dinan "chip" (it's really just an ECM reflash) carries a Dinan 4-year/80,000km warranty that includes any consequential damage. The Dinan stage 2 reflash is $2200 USD (slightly more if you also require the larger oil cooler, not all 335's need it apparently - depends on production date of the vehicle). With the Dinan stage 2 upgrade, power is increased to 384bhp and 421lb-ft... which is probably about 50-60bhp and about 100ft/lb more than the stock output. (Keep in mind stock numbers on the 335i are underrated by at least 20bhp/20lb-ft, sometimes more depending on which dyno is used). Granted, Dinan is expensive and their warranty is no longer directly linked with BMW's... but they're still a legit company that offers legit warranties, and $2500 for another 50 brake horsepower and 100lb-ft of torque is a steal. Find me a way to increase the 370z power numbers by 50bhp for $2500... The full Dinan package is something like $8000, it includes exhaust, intake, and revised suspension in addition to the chip and improved oil cooler unit. I've heard many people say they prefer the Dinan 335i to the e92 m3 in a daily driving situation, simply because it has so much low-end power. Not sure how it matches up in a drag race, but it's probably pretty close. |

I've driven both the 335i coupe and 370z coupe, not the convertible however. In terms of performance, I felt that the power in both was definitely on par, with maybe a slight advantage for the 370z. Around corners and the drive in general, the 335i felt much more planted then the 370z, while the 370z was definitely more fun to drive and gave a much more "sports" car feel. For driving in the city though, you'd be hard pressed to determine which drives better , they're both fantastic; on the track however I'm sure the 370z would have an advantage. I totally fell in love with the 370z's rev match down shifts gizmo; I could not get enough of that and the exhaust note is so much more satisfying then that of the 335i. For those two reasons alone, I almost went for the 370z, but I ended up with the 335i over the 370z instead for two reasons 1) the 370z is loud as hell, the amount of road noise is ridiculous. In the 335i it's whisper quite until you decide to floor it and the engine roars to life. In the 370z, every pebble I hit, every gust of wind, every bird flying by sounded like an explosion was going off beside my ears. 2) I'm a old school guy who likes to use paper maps and not gps; so I wouldn't have gotten navigation in either car. In the 335i, without adding navigation you're rewarded with a sleek dashboard free of the hump that usually comes with the nav screen. Whereas in the 370z you get a empty hole with a flimsy ass plastic cover that I feel like I'm going to destroy every time I go to open it. I know... that sounds completely retarded Anyways, I rambled, but basically, either one is a winner, but if you're going Nissan, don't get the vert, get the coupe. |
335is would be nice. If you get a 335i, get the 2011 because it's the LCI model. |
