They also predicted that the Calgary Flames would be in 8th in the West...which is :IDL :noob:

Puck Daddy predicted that the Canucks would win last year.

I think we're definitely a contender on paper but we've been a contender on paper for quite a few of the last ten years.

I can see that because everybody had peaked stats wise and everybody had career high which i think is a good thing this year. We'll have more balance scoring from lines 1-4.

and probably because the young guns (hods, shiro, shroeds, schnieds, rodin)probably wont get that much playing time because our team is so fuckin stacked.

I wouldnt be suprised if sedins split the hart this year.

I think the west is so weak we have a good chance this year. All the " ELITE" teams are be punished by the salary cap. We were always behind Chicago,Detroit,San Jose when it came to preaseason predictions. Now thos teams arent the same anymore. I have no doubt we will win the cup.

The west sucks now . What other team can beat us on paper? calgary ?phoenix? lolz

if the canucks can get out of the gate alright its not hard to see them winning the west in the regular season. for most of the last few years we've finished within a handfull of points of top spot, but went worse than 500 in october and november.

We seem to have pre season magic then fail hard for the first couple weeks of the regular season

invader 08-14-2010 11:56 AM

i hope luongo has his head on straight this year because for once we have a roster to get excited about.

I think Lu will be fine considering that last season he had to put up with the Olympics which imo wore him down come playoff time.

Gumby 08-14-2010 12:40 PM

Woah man - no doubt we'll win the cup?

Sure, we have a strong team on paper, but there are so many intangibles that just need to "click" in order to sip from Stanley's mug. I'm always wary of the injury bug that always seems to get the better of us...

its because there is no pressure from the media during preseason so the Canucks play up to their potential. When the media starts getting on them thats when they start choking. The media is what really gets to our team

Totally disagree, you're saying that it's media pressure that causes the team to lose? When the team is winning there is no pressure. It's when the team goes on prolonged losing streaks when the media pressure starts. I'm going to say the media and fan pressure has almost no effect on the way the team plays, these guys are professional athletes. Most the pressure these guys face come from themselves for not winning or not performing the way they feel their capable.

I disagree with both of you.

Vancouver is hockey crazy and even during pre-season they get a lot of media attention. But whether it's a lot or not at all, it's pre-season and doesn't mean anything. At least half the games are played by players who aren't gonna be on the team and that goes for the opposing team as well.

Also, they may be professional athletes but it's bs to say that media pressure doesn't bother them. They are still human. I recall Shane O'Brien (during the 10 game losing streak 2 seasons ago) say that he didn't even want to leave his house because he was afraid of the media and the public.

I know they try hard to avoid reading stuff and hearing bout this stuff but it's hard to especially with technology the way it is today.

MR_BIGGS 08-14-2010 03:06 PM

Luongo should play no more than 65 games.

Not really racist! 08-14-2010 04:38 PM

^ Agreed, Schneider needs the playing time anyways

We don't want Luongo turning into Kipper, hopefully he doesn't tell the coaching staff he wants to play all the back to backs

Maybe I'm pushing it but I'd love to see Schneider play around 20 games if he does okay, Lu played 68 according to wiki last season

b0unce. [?] 08-14-2010 07:26 PM

I'd love to see Schneider get more ice time ^^

spoon.ek9 08-14-2010 08:05 PM

^ hopefully he's ready now.. i can only remember one solid game he had in net for us so far

What happens when he starts losing?

You boys need to tone it down. The Canuck's are going to go through injuries, long streaks of not winning, drama etc etc. You can't really make decision's on how they are going to do in the playoffs untill 15 games remaining, maybe less.

Lets just refresh top 5 playoff problems. (

1) Lou sometimes chokes. Solution - ???????
2) Alex Burrows. Solution - Stop griping the stick so tight.
3) Coaching. Solution - AV has to be the dominant coach in the series.
4) 3rd line. Solution - Everbody>Wellwood:p
5) Size. Solution - Wellwood GONE.

HeyOOOO

spoon.ek9 08-14-2010 10:32 PM

^ were you jumping up and down when wellwood signed elsewhere? :lol

i must have missed that post :p

That's bull IMO and the excuses need to stop.

Keith, Seabrook, Toews & Kane all played the entire duration of the Olympics and were fine NHL post-season. IIRC, Luongo split the Olympics with Brodeur.

For $8 million, Luongo just has to play above and beyond the defense he gets. He & people shouldn't be complaining that our string of $3.5M defensemans aren't playing like $6M defensemans.

Too soon IMO. Yes Detroit & Chicago downgraded but along with San Jose, we are not still above and beyond these 3 teams.

Also mind you, I'm not too sure but the last few seasons, we were only the 3rd Western seed because all 3 western divisions needed to have their top team represent the Conference's top 3 seeds. Had it not been for that rule, we would be 4th seed twice coming into the play offs. Which pretty much means that we're just a mid-tier team; and have always been a notch below the above-mentioned teams.

Grandmaster TSE 08-15-2010 02:52 AM

with the added depth on the blue line, it will help out Luongo quite a bit, making his life easier

Not really racist! 08-15-2010 11:08 AM

As long as Lu can make that one game changing save and stay solid the whole game, our D will probably carry us along with the Sedins

Every player is different. Lu obviously can't handle the extra work load and extra stress, sure he gets made $8 million but you can't change the way a player handles the game mentally or physically. Decrease his work load in the regular season and I think you'll have more success with Lu between the pipes in the playoffs.

Canucks are featured on Puck Daddy's Mt.Puckmore editorial today
written by the kurtenbloggers.. the choices are pretty obvious...

for those that dont know, Puck Daddy's been using guest bloggers and journalists to compile 4 players that have defined each franchise
