Unlikely, so soon after surgery there is no way his vision is close to even 50% recovered I'd venture to guess. That would mean his peripheral vision would be horrible and the last thing Manny needs is to not see a hit coming rocking him. With bascially only vision in one eye right now, his play and game speed will likely suffer quite a bit. If he had a detached retina or burst globe, no way the surgeon would've cleared him for contact either so soon as that could cause another detachment.

It's not too surprising seeing Manny active right now, after I had my eye surgeries, surgeon cleared me back for jogging/cardio in 3 weeks, heavy weight training in 6 weeks and MMA training in 3.5 months. It's been what now, 2 months for Manny? It'd be amazing if Manny returns for a potential 4th round, but Manny needs to put his long term health first right now.

I feel bad for manny. He's such a team guy, sticking around and cheering on his teammates when he could have easily disappeared ala Willie Mitchell style when he had an concussion.

As much as I'm sure he wants his team to win, it has to be eating him up inside knowing he can't be a part of this. He was such a big factor in out teams success yet he won't get his name on the cup should we win.

It's a lot hard for the fwrd to come back from a injury like this since they use there preferial vision a whole lot more then a D man. I'm really hopeing he will be able to come back for faceoffs that would be beyond wicked.

Never had a concussion eh? They can be severe and all you can handle is a dark room. Mitchell's a man, I think he would have been there if he could have been.

Like you guys, I'd love it if Malhotra came back this season, but it's also kinda selfish... We want him to be healthy for next year's playoff run as we try to repeat.

Not true - three ways to get your name on the cup:
-play 40+ games for the winning team in regular season (but not get traded away)
-play 1 game in Final round
-special consideration (i.e. Vladimir Konstantinov)

And article from http://canucks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=562563 showing that Malhotra is contributing in other ways:
Quote:
Malhotra's impact still felt by Canucks

The veteran center has been sidelined by a severe eye injury since mid-March when he was struck in the eye by a puck.

There is no timetable for his return to Vancouver's lineup.

Ideally Vancouver would have Malhotra on the ice helping the playoff push; instead, the Canucks' coaching staff has been using his expertise off the ice. According to Associate Coach Rick Bowness, Malhotra has helped bridge the gap between the players and coaches.

"We don't always go in the room, (the message) can't always come from us, it has to come from within the room," Bowness said. "When it comes from within the room, it's got to be the right man, the right voice and the right tone that the words are being passed along to the players and Manny knows that.

"He knows when to get excited, and when to calm them down. That's the feel you have to have with your team and Manny has that."

Malhotra led the Canucks in faceoff percentage during the regular season at 61.7 per cent, and was second in the NHL to David Steckel. His abilities in the faceoff circle were especially crucial on defensive zone draws on the penalty kill. Bowness said Wednesday that the Canucks still rely on Malhotra's PK knowledge.

"Manny, as we all know, is a great leader, has a great rapport with all his teammates and a great rapport with the coaching staff," Bowness continued. "For instance, I told Manny the other night in Nashville, I said you go talk to the forwards about the PK stuff we want to stay on top of.

"We use him; he's getting involved because he has that rapport and he has that respect from the players and he's involved in all the meetings."

His expertise in the faceoff circle has come in handy for the likes of Henrik Sedin and Maxim Lapierre.
"We talk a lot about different things and he gives us small details that we can work on against different guys and it's good," Sedin said. "He looks at a lot of games from upstairs and watches TV – a lot of times it's easy to see things from the side than it is when you're actually playing."

Added Lapierre: "He helps me a lot on the faceoffs. He talks to me, he analyzes every other centerman in the league. He helps me try to change little things or tells me to keep doing the right thing. He's been a big help to every player on this team so far. If I'm off my technique he would tell me ‘you're going too far' or ‘you're too tight' – he's talking to me a lot and he's helping me a lot."

An offseason free-agent signing, Malhotra was reaching for a loose puck in the team's 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche when the puck deflected off his stick and struck him in the left eye. Malhotra underwent two procedures on the eye, and soon after the team confirmed he would be lost for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.

The fact that Malhotra looks physically fine to his teammates is what makes it all the more difficult to see him sitting on the sidelines.

"It's tough because I mean his eye is looking a lot better too," Sedin said. "You don't really see what's wrong and he wants to be out there. It's tough to see him sit on the side."

Added Lapierre: "It's a big loss for us; we cannot hide from that. We wish we had him in the lineup -- obviously we can't, but he's been pretty solid. What he's going through is pretty tough, we're all with him and that's why we got such a good team spirit."

Yea, Maholtra's definitely getting his name on the cup for sure if Canucks win.

The only way I can see Maholtra coming back is if we really need him in the finals.
Like a one game, trump card move, kinda thing.

Save it for a home game, and I bet Canucks will at least win that one game.
Manny with one eye is probably still more effective than a few of our guys.
And just him being on the ice will boost everyone's morale 10x.

Just want Manny to be ready to go next year, seeing him in a tracksuit on the ice basically means he's far from ready. Its sorta like how the Pens had crosby mic'd up and such at games with the coaching staff to aid the team

@mirtle: Van-Nsh series on CBC delivered an average audience of 2.978 million, making it CBC’s highest-rated single Round 2 series ever.

So much for not being Canada's team lol

more than likely they just pushed up on the visor which would shift the helmet to sit a bit differently

no, on careful inspection, the visor is tilted up high enough that rim of the helmet is inline on the halfway point of the visor.
It's not the helmet that's tilted.

im not sure then. i do that all the time tho when im on the bench or shaking hands after game, just push up on the visor and the helmet sits a bit differently and looks like that. getzlaf played like that through the entire olympics just had his helmet sit differently so the visor didnt bother his vision. you should check for a pic and see if they are similar

No, those visors just have a lot of play in them. You'll see what I mean if you ever put one of those on.

Is it just me or does anyone else care less about the World Championships? To me playoff hockey > the WC's. For one, playoff hockey seems more intense and just overall better to watch. WC's are a bunch of players that are playing on teams that missed the playoffs or got eliminated early.

Only because Canada's losing, or has lost the last few that's why people say that.

Now, if Canada's been dominating it, rest assured us fellow Canadians would care much more about another bragging right; same goes if it were to be Americans, Russians et al., who would say they value such tourneys highly.

It also doesn't help that we're going deep in the post season. Had we been elimnated early and Team Canada is your only current source of hockey fix, I'm sure it would matter a lot more to a lot of "hockey" fans.

I meant "hockey" fans to exclude people that are only hockey fans via Canucks solely for hometown pride; bandwagonning.

Must be just me then. I get bored watching Canada and other countries dominate teams like Italy, France, etcetc. I guess I just don't find international hockey appealing unless it's the olympics, whether the Canucks are still in the playoffs or not, barring if some of my favourite players are playing.
