Active player within the community, which is why it makes losses like these worst. Being an enforcer, the last remains of these in the league, its a huge loss to tradition

New York Rangers forward Derek Boogaard was found dead in his apartment on Friday.

Minneapolis Star Trbune's Michael Russo first reported the news of Boogard's passing on Twitter Friday evening, saying the 28-year-old was found dead in his apartment by his family.

"Derek was an extremely kind and caring individual," Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather said in a release. "He was a very thoughtful person, who will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and teammates during this difficult time."

Boogaard began his NHL career with Minnesota and appeared in 255 career games with the Wild from 2005-06 and 2009-10. He joined the Rangers on July 1, 2010, appearing in 22 games in the 2010-11 season.

Throughout his career, Boogaard sought to make a difference in the communities he played in, taking part in numerous charitable endeavors. Boogaard was a supporter of the Defending the Blue Line Foundation, a non-profit charitable foundation whose mission is to ensure that children of military members are afforded every opportunity to participate in the great sport of hockey. While with the Rangers, he created "Boogaard's Booguardians," hosting military members and their families at all New York Ranger home games.

In addition, he made multiple appearances with partner organizations of the Garden of Dreams Foundation, the non-profit charity that works closely with all areas of Madison Square Garden, including the New York Knicks, Rangers, Liberty, MSG Media, MSG Entertainment and Fuse "to make dreams come true for kids facing obstacles."

The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native was originally Minnesota's seventh round choice, 202nd overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

to his credit, marleau did have a game winning goal for game 7 and some good defensive plays to stop the red wings from tying it up.

That's a very un-Vancouver sentiment to have. Vancouverites very much seem to give a shit what the rest of Canada (aka Toronto) thinks of them. You see it all the time with the whining and trolling.

heres a fun fact

Quote:
VANCOUVER — As the Vancouver Canucks continue their playoff run for the Stanley Cup, fans are engaging in a toilet flushing frenzy between periods.

At the end of the third period of Game 6 between Vancouver and Nashville, for instance, water pressure in Burnaby plunged 15 per cent, just slightly more than it did in Game 7 between the Canucks and Blackhawks.

As the playoffs get more intense, more people will likely be “hanging on” longer before relieving themselves, according to the Metro Vancouver engineers who are measuring water pressure during the hockey playoffs.

“It’s getting more severe through each period,” said Rick Marchand, utilities systems control supervisor for Metro Vancouver. “The deeper they go into the playoffs, the deeper the spike ... more people appear to be flushing after each period.”

Metro Vancouver typically sees spikes in water flow during the Grey Cup, Super Bowl and Canuck playoff games and has staff working 24 hours a day to monitor consumption during major televised events. Unlike regular television shows, which typically see a boost in flushes at the top of every hour, during sporting events engineers can anticipate a break for intermission or overtime and prepare for a major flush because each period is counted down.

“These spikes are not regimented; they quickly go down right after the period,” Marchand said. “They’re not hourly or like the noontime draws when everybody goes for lunch. This is very unique.”

To prepare for the frenzy, engineers open valves and start the pumps to raise the water pressure “because we know we’re going to get hit,” he said.

During the Canada-U.S. Olympic hockey game in 2010, for instance, the flushing was fast and furious during the 20-minute breaks between periods. By the end of the third period, when the Americans tied up the game with just 24.4 seconds left, there were roughly 112,000 flushes.

The water flows are based on the discharge reservoir at the Seymour Capilano filtration plant, which supplies about 60 per cent of potable water in Metro Vancouver, and assumed flows at Coquitlam reservoir.

Marchand noted that it’s not just sporting events that have people holding on: During the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, spikes in water use were seen at 4 a.m. “It was noticeable because we don’t usually see particular consumption at that time ... people are usually asleep.”

First bought that came to my mind was suicide, due to depression caused by concussions. Guess we'll find out eventually.

Could you imagine the controversy if that were true? Concussions are already the hottest NHL Topic (aside from playoffs of course)

Even if it were a suicide, I don't think there is a way you could link that to suicide from depression can you? Unless he explicitly wrote that on a suicide note?

Just looking back at previous threads.

09/10 season = 1050 pages
08/09 season = 750 pages
07/08 season = 300 pages

2010 Olympic thread has ten times less posts.

When the Canucks make it to the Stanley Cup finals, this thread will grow to 2000 pages!!
