anyone else listen to team1040 today? they said among the top 5 hitters in the post season this year, 4 of them are canucks:

1. Lapierre
2. Edler
3. Bieksa
4. Kesler

all are averaging 3.5hits per game.

No love for Torres? i know he does make a few mistakes a game but when he hits, its of the highlight reel variety

The main problem that CoHo has is his skating, specifically his speed. His skating isn't simply good enough for the NHL. Either he needs another summer with Gary Roberts or a dedicated skating coach. He will never be as quick as Hansen, but considering the improvements that the Sedins have made in their skating over the years, he still has some room for improvement.

CoHo's skating isn't terrible really, if you look at it now and when he's previously played with the big club it has improved dramatically. Blazing speed isn't necessary to be successful in the NHL, I think the Sedins have both proven that. There's been plays where his skating has really impressed me actually - for example, there have been a couple plays against Chicago/Nashville where he's fed the puck off to a line mate, crashed the net with good foot speed and had a really good opportunity for a deflection/rebound. From what I've seen from him in his limited ice time, he has impressed at times. He's been playing with Oreo and Glass a lot too, so goals aren't really expected to come from that line anyways.

Obviously there's work to be done with him, as there is any player, but I foresee him playing in a top 6 position soon enough. People seem to forget the depth that the Canucks have and thus throw Cody under the bus saying he isn't good enough, he isn't fast enough etc - but look at how GOOD our team actually is. With our lineup, it's no wonder he isn't playing in a top 6 position, even more so when Malholtra is slotted in. Things may change if at some point, CoHo is set to play on the wing, but only time will tell.

Anyways, people have called numerous draft choices of ours busts (Sedins, Kesler, Grabner) and they've all developed in NHL calibre players. Cody wasn't drafted first or second overall, so we can't really expect him to jump right into the game and start producing like others previously have. Keep up the faith, watch him develop and I have no doubt he'll turn into a wonderful player for the Canucks one day.

You can definitely see the kid has talent. Whether he puts it all together or not remains to be seen. Honestly, I'd rather trade him at this point. I thought he'd be a regular by now.

I don't care if we get a power forward or not. I actually don't think that sort of style fits the Canucks but definitely a scoring forward rather than a grinding one and a defensive prospect for sure as that part of the farm is thin past Tanev and maybe Sweatt.

spideyv2 05-17-2011 11:40 PM

It might be best for Hodgson's development if we trade him. Lets face it, he's not gonna be a top 6 centre with us anytime soon as long as we have Hank and Kes..unless there's an injury

Looks like Tambi will be in for Glass for Game 2. It helps in 2 ways, we could use Tambi's speed and now Coho will have someone with offensive upside to pass to.

seriously we need this as our new goal song

atleast all of rogers arena would know the lyrics

the list wasn't made by me nor was it based on the type of hit. it was simply who has thrown the most hits in the post season this year (from all teams) and as i said, 4 out of the top 5 are canucks.

Assuming we had the money, it would be worth it imo. I'm probably bias when I was suggesting it lol, only because he's one of my favorite players.
Basically playing by himself in Columbus, he puts up at minimum 30+ goals, and roughly 60+ points. If they gave him some better line mates, he's guaranteed to up his point production. I mean his team canada stats reflect that.
I dont think his contract is 7 mil... pretty sure its around 5mil~ a year.

I wish :P
I was more surprised when panthers traded away Horton. He was going to be the corner stone of that team. But I guess it's true, Florida is hockey's graveyard lol

According to capgeek.com his cap hit is 7.8 mil http://www.capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=586

Not gonna lie though, a Sedin-Sedin-Nash or Raymond-Kesler-Nash line would be pretty killer

AzNightmare 05-18-2011 01:12 AM

It would be nice if we had a big guy that can crash the net and score.
But Nash is way too expensive.

goo3 05-18-2011 03:22 AM

Because of our depth, the best move with schneider, imo, is to load up on draft picks depending on what happens with UFAs.

Ronin 05-18-2011 03:57 AM

Trading Schneider for anything less than a top-5 or at least top-10 pick in a deep draft would probably be a bad move for the Canucks. Remember that Schneider is a 1st round pick himself and we've developed him for near 7 years. Giving him up for another kick at the draft is getting very little equity for our investment. Pick + prospect or player + prospect is the best scenario.

I'm sure the Canucks and GMs around the NHL know all this and let's not forget Schnoo had excellent numbers. Yes, he played behind the best team in the NHL but he had outstanding numbers for a rookie and his performance should net us better than just picks.

I would do that Lucic or Ryan trade in a heartbeat but the Bruins and Ducks aren't stupid...and neither team is in need of immediate goaltending help with Thomas/Rask and Hiller (if he can continue his career with his vertigo or whatever).

Assuming the Canucks would prefer to deal him to the East, you're looking at Philly (obvious), New Jersey (Brodeur isn't getting younger), Toronto (assuming they don't think Reimer is their man), NYI, Tampa and Washington (less so Washington) that have goallie problems.

In the West, only Colorado and maybe Edmonton have shaky goaltending. Dallas too.

And this isn't counting the prospects they have coming up the pipes.

orange7 05-18-2011 04:06 AM

trade him to the east. I don't want to face him in the west.

spoon.ek9 05-18-2011 08:45 AM

i'll be sad to see cory go when he eventually does, but i will be happy and cheer for him his entire career.

he is perhaps the greatest backup goaltender this franchise has ever seen! SCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHNNEEEEIDDDD

MR_BIGGS 05-18-2011 08:57 AM

So I am going to be on an airplane headed for Vancouver this evening :( luckily I'm flying with westjet and they have live TV and cbc is one of the channels they have (cbc toronto) I hope this meanss that the game will be on. I will be in the air for the first 2 periods. Does anyone know if cbc has mobile streaming for hockey games? I dont want to miss the 3d while getting luggage etc...I do have the team 1040 app so worse comes to worse I can listen at least.

Last teenager to get 4 points in a single playoff game was... Trevor Linden in 1989. :D
