What is the deal with Hodgson? The organization seems to be hush hush about him and he seems to be seperated from the rookie group.
He is not playing in the young stars game but should be taking part in the rookie physicals if he's healthy??

| What's Up With Hodgson? Nobody Really Knows Quote:
“He just wasn’t ready. We really believe this young man has a tremendous amount of upside but, at the end of the day, he didn’t show any signs that he was ready to play at this level. After analyzing it and talking about it, we felt the best thing for him was to go back to junior and his team.”
Those were the words of Canucks coach Alain Vigneault late last September after the club decided to send Cody Hodgson back to Brampton of the OHL following the top prospect's less-than-impressive performance in the pre-season.
“I think Cody is a very young man who hasn’t had a lot of disappointments throughout his life. He’s probably having as tough time, personally, dealing with this one and trying to find a reason why it happened. We’ve all had times where we’ve encountered disappointment and tried to roll the [blame] in a different direction. We’ve all been through those things. Cody will learn from this.”
That was Vigneault a couple of days later, suggesting that Hodgson was using his bad back as an excuse for the demotion. The Canucks had previously claimed he was fit to play the pre-season. But Hodgson got a second opinion and subsequently missed most of last season rehabbing his back.
From an optics standpoint, it didn't look good.
Predictably, rumours of a rift between Hodgson and the Canucks grew, though in February that was denied by Vancouver GM Mike Gillis.
Hodgson, meanwhile, wasn't willing to go into detail about it:
Asked if he'd spoken to Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault about the latter's suggestion that Hodgson might be using his injury as an excuse for his demotion to junior, he said: “No. I'm not looking back now. The only thing I'm concerned with is my play and getting better.”
And ever since, Canucks fans have been dying to know what's up with Hodgson. Does he have a problem with the coach and/or management? Is his back totally screwed or what? Because it still wasn't 100 percent in April when it was reported he wouldn't be suiting up for the Manitoba Moose in the AHL playoffs.
So far, all anyone's been able to do is speculate, because, not surprisingly, nobody's talking. Or if they are talking, they're not saying anything meaningful.
All of which brings us to the news that Hodgson was absent from today's skate at Rogers Arena:
But perhaps the most puzzling absence was prospect Cody Hodgson, who's apparently still working in Toronto with former NHL player and fitness guru Gary Roberts while players such as Jeff Tambellini, Victor Oreskovich and prospect Jordan Schroeder are already here preparing to fight for a Canucks job.
Canucks assistant GM Laurence Gilman said Hodgson – the Canucks' first round pick (10th overall) in 2008 – needs to finish his program with Roberts before heading to Vancouver.
Hodgson suffered a bulging disc in his back in the summer of 2009, which caused him to struggle in last year's preseason with the Canucks and subsequently forced him to miss the first four months of his junior season in Brampton.
“He's working on core training and he's got a regime that he needs to finish,” said Gilman.
Gilman said Hodgson is expected to be at the prospects physicals at Rogers Arena on Friday, but it's uncertain if the 20-year-old centre will play in the prospects tournament in Penticton.
“'For any player, we want to make sure he's fit to play,” said Gilman. “We haven't had a chance to conduct a (recent) medical evaluation (on Hodgson).”
So again Canucks fans are left wondering, what's up with Hodgson? | http://communities.canada.com/thepro...lly-knows.aspx

Hamhuis just got here. We all laughed when Phaneuf was named captain of the Leafs.
Kesler is my choice. I think Hank would do a good job as well but Kesler has the potential to be a great captain. Seriously, in the years since Linden's decline, has anyone but Kesler shown the potential to be the sort of guy that's "Hop on my back, boys! We're winning this game if it kills me!" That's why I thought it was okay for Louie to be captain...because that's the sort of guy he is as well. He'll go beast mode and steal us games but apparently the pressure is too much for him.
That's the sort of game he showed us during the Olympics. I don't know if he was hurt or what during the playoffs but that's the sort of game I expect from him from now on.

Man, I would be so bummed if Hodgson was a bust. I was so f'in stoked about him and now all the secrecy is starting to get to me.
It was such a tragic loss with Bourdon and it would be a tough pill for any Canuck fan to swallow losing 2 blue chip prospects due to tragedy and injury in such a short time span.

I think Kesler fits the bill just fine though. But my money goes to Lu getting 1 more year as captain.. see how it goes with this team

You need character guys like tat to lead by example.
I'm sure whoever we have as captain will be a good choice anyways. Look at it when Luongo was captain. It was basically Ohlund + Mitchell always talking to the refs. Leadership isn't defined by the letter on your sweater.

I remember hearing Hodgson speaking about how he had no competition anymore in the AHL and he wanted his chance at the NHL. IMO, I feel like we should give our rookies more chances in the big league and let them gain some more experience and knowledge so they can develop. Sure you can say some teams 'have no choice' but to throw their rookies in right away, but you look at detroit and see their scouting team and organization, they tend to give their rookies a shot to see how well they do. Other than the preseason games + a couple reg season games, hodgson hasn't gotten a solid chance at proving himself.

I dont see how Hodgson thinks he has no more competition in the AHL, I could see CHL but not AHL. He played 11 games and got 6 points, in comparison Schroeder had 15 pts in 17games and a ppg in the playoffs. Kid needs to stop overhyping himself and just play hockey hes going to spend most of the year in Manitoba anyways.

I understand they want there players to develop at the junior and AHL levels and not bring them up to soon but they seem to error on the side of caution to often. If there hurt they cannot play obviously but give them an opportunity to prove themselves even if it means leaving them up after a bunch of shitty performances. I also realize if they play a certain amount of games up then the year counts as a full year and you lose a year of eligibility but they still need to take that risk more often IMO.

They are in NO rush to send any of their prospects to the big leagues and would rather they mature correctly in the right places.
look at Jimmy howard, zetterberg, datsyuk, jonathan ericsson (DEAD Last pic in the draft), Franzen (i think)
All these guys were NOT rushed

Perhaps he didn't feel challenged in CHL. I doubt he'd say that about a league he's hardly played in.
