Did you guys see one of SJ's version of the green men pull up his jersey to flash our player in the penalty box?

Iceman_2K 05-20-2011 10:24 PM

I saw one at Joey's today when I was eating a late lunch with a buddy.. It was 28... I guessed Noonan, but I was a year too late, and it was a Joey Kocur :D

Iceman_2K 05-20-2011 10:29 PM

Mine doesn't have a name or number on the back - but I wanted McLean when i originally got it....

There also was a green men inside a shark costume's jaw.

Bring TANEV! He played half of the regular season. I think he deserves to get a glimpse of the big stage. :fullofwin:

Ballard's been a good team player since day one, even though AV's got the hate-on for him. I hope he plays lights out once he gets his chance.

I thought it was a good game too - I think if there was a chance for Luongo to steal a period or have a break out period, it would have been period 1, since SJ was coming in hard. There really hasn't been much of a chance for Luongo to really steal a game, much less a period so far in the playoffs, considering how Vancouver's forwards and d-men have been very very effective. When you stand out there for long stretches with nothing to do, you cool off very quickly and its hard to get back in when the play moves back into your zone.

It's still the lesser of two (maybe 3) evils, which is what we should prefer; rather than being under constant seige and fatiguing as the game goes on; or back and forth scoring chances like TB and BOS Game 1.

It came down to a 1 goal game again. The point is, he's not a scrub so mediocre or "good enough" expectations aren't the standards set for him. If people ever want to respect him along the same pedestal as Roy or Brodeur, "he" has to be a big factor why his team winning.

As of now, he's just one of those goaltenders that keeps you in the game, but for a team with league leading offense and league enviable defensive depth, that's not really reflecting much for him at all.

Simulated 05-20-2011 10:50 PM

i hope ehrhoff isn't hurt too badly. i didn't even see what happened. i hope AV saying ehrhoff not playing game 4 is just the opposite of TM saying eager was playing game 3 but did not. regardless i'm glad to see ballard possibly back in the lineup.

Iceman_2K 05-20-2011 10:55 PM

I think he's more of a goalie that keeps the game going for the Canucks, rather than keeping them IN the game. A goalie that keeps you IN the game is Pekka Renne, where he had nothing in front of him that helped, and if it wasn't for him, Nashville would have been eliminated in a sweep.

^ That's who Luongo needs to be every night before the fans finally get off his back. I'm pretty indifferent to his play. I felt like the D needed to tighten up a bit on a couple of the goals (Clowe ALL BY HIMSELF), but Lu didn't look his best tonight either.

Bonka 05-20-2011 11:06 PM

Yeah Lu needs to be that every night, but so does every player BUT everyone will have their off nights. It just happens. The Canucks have shown their resiliency and character by having bounce-back performances so I expect much of the same (like what we saw in the 3rd or 5 on 5) including a more disciplined showing on Sunday.

Can't even imagine what was happening originally..? He just looks high.

iwantaskyline 05-21-2011 01:07 AM

Can't really fault Luongo on any of the goals except the 4th one. Point shot through the legs isn't acceptable. Especially when your team is down 3 zip. I think I've said this before but I hate his body language after a goal. Lies on the ice and stares at the heavens like he's been shot with a gun. Just get up and drink your gatorade.

We lost, but we lost missing our top d-man for half the game. We also only had 4-dman the last 7 mins of the game as well. We're gonna come back on Sunday more disciplined, already knowing the atmosphere in the San Jose crowd and we're going to have 6 healthy d-man. Juice and Hammer will probably play 30 each due to Ehroff and Rome being out. Ballard and Alberts in.

Like I said before, hopefully that was the last weak five hole goal he lets in. Point shot going tweens is acceptable granted there's traffic in front/it's tipped, but there was literally no traffic nor a tip today. I'm sure we'll see him tighten that up. Regardless, he played a good game and made some big saves. Obviously when you give the opposing team 10 powerplay opportunities, your goalie can only do so much. We all know Lu is capable of being a good tendy, hopefully we see more of it!

Personally I like Tanev's play. I think he's really solid and stepped up big during the reg season when almost all our defenceman were out.

punkwax 05-21-2011 07:03 AM

I think Ballard is going to step up and play lights out. If he does, he should slide in nicely for Ehrhoff. He took ownership of his play that resulted in previous healthy scratches and it's that kind of attitude that helps win playoff games. No excuses, everyone is responsible.

Simulated 05-21-2011 08:04 AM

ehrhoff likely has separated shoulder and rome obviously with concussion.

I like Tanev a lot too! I think he pairs with Ballard really well actually. Plus Ballard some what was his mentor when he was brought in, definitely some chemistry there too.

I still prefer Alberts for now though, the bigger body should be better against the Shark's forcheck.

spoon.ek9 05-21-2011 08:37 AM

i was thinking about this yesterday and i honestly wonder if alberts will be put in. one of our key advantages this series is defensive mobility. alberts is a big guy and a good dman but i'm not sure if he can keep up with the pace at this level. that being said, i wouldn't be surprised to see alberts and ballard slide in for rome and ehrhoff.

this team has dealt with injuries on the back end all year long, this is nothing new to them!

orange7 05-21-2011 09:44 AM

I guess this is why we have 4.2 mill ballard.

To lay out towels on seats when we have a healthy group of dman and to skate on ice when we have blueline injuries.

you are correct.

What people who have never played the game, or any sports for that matter, is that even though you TRY, some nights are not your night. And it can go both ways as well. You can be as lucky as sh*t and get 4 pts even though you had 4 mins of ice time, and it was your linemates that were ripping it up and you happened to get a 2nd assist. As for goalies, luck can make you look REAL good. Of course, it all can balance out, but that is why I am so annoyed at people who love Lu/Sedins one night, and rip him/them apart the next. All in all, the Canucks have had a brilliant, record setting season at this point. Within the regular season records, and so far their great playoff run, they had speed bumps along the way.. You are not going to go 82-0 in the regular season, nor are you going to go 16-0 in the playoffs.

Especially now in the latter rounds of the playoffs, series' are expected to go 6-7 games. You are at a point where you are playing against a team that is basically a mirror image of yourself in terms of stats and winning ability. The best team in each series has ONE goal in mind, and that is to win 4 games before they lose 4 games.

Lastly, I believe Canuck "fans" take their team for granted. If you ask any fan whether they would accept a 7 game series win and a 6 game series win in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs, they will all say "hell ya!"... If you ask them if they would take a 2-1 lead in the WCF, no one would turn that down. The Nucks are 2 games away from making it to the big show... and will have had to lose 4 out of 5 to be knocked out by San Jose. Besides Detroit and Nj and a couple of other teams, it is very rare a team to get to the WCF and SCF year after year. So I think we should all be a bit more appreciative of the Canucks success. Yes, I want them to win it all, but I sure don't EXPECT them to win it. The reality is, it is so hard for any team to win the cup, let alone get to the WCF. I am just happy they are where they are now...
