For this season, Canuck fans are in for a pretty damn good "fan experience"

For this season they will be rolling out a new plan where the fan experience begins once you get near Rogers Arena. This is what I heard

1)
They will be setting up major light fixtures at different parts outside of Rogers Arena
shining huge bright green and blue lights. In past seasons the fan experience doesn't really start until you get inside, but they want a buzz outside the arena. Apparently these lights will be quite bright and can be see from a distance. Saw what it may look like and it looks fricken awesome!

2)
They are getting rid of the team 1040 pregame heard on the radio outside the gates before games and will instead have nostalgic play by plays from past history. I'm iffy on this one as I like the pregame while waiting in line to get in.

3)
Similar to other arenas in the NHL, the gates outside Roger's Arena will have like huge 10 foot banners of favourite Canucks displayed to give the outside part a nicer look on game nights.

4)
Some of you may have noticed that the banners up right now at Rogers Arena (division titles, retired jerseys all have the present day Canucks colours and fonts) Although not confirmed, they may be bringing back the actual banners from the years they actually won them. (The actual Smyl banner that they retired, the actual division titles from past years etc etc.)

5)
The first player to be honoured on the ring of fire will be the Orland Kurtenbach and 3more players will be honoured throughout the season.

6)
Visions Lounge on the 4th Floor will now be called the Rogers Red Zone and will have Rogers Sportsnet situated there.

Amen, brother.

And hopefully I can watch more than one game live this year :)

chouchou 09-09-2010 11:22 PM

kudos to anyone who pushes the original banners being up there. They were won/given in that era, with those colors. Why modernize it and lose originality?!

I'm sure this was brought up earlier in this thread but any updates on Sportsnet One? I called Bell today and they said they have no plans to pick up the channel. I know Shaw is going back and fourth with Rogers over licensing. I can't imagine this channel not been launched in time for the regular season but who knows.

No news from what I've heard. Maybe Bell can use CTV as leverage now they own it hahah.

Can't be that hard to negotiate considering they had to deal with this when TSN2 came out.

He couldn't beat people on the ice so he had to resort to doing it off the ice.

Curses. Got through to ticketmaster at 10:03am and Canucks Leafs tickets were already sold out (December 18th).

I guess they don't want fans to hear any criticism from Gallagher, Tomlinson, et. al. before a game.

I'm sure Rogers is charging the networks an arm and a leg for Sportsnet One, but eventually, they'll get agreements and it'll be on our dials sometime in the fall, probably after the season starts. I haven't heard anything from my provider Novus either, but since it's just a small company, we might get it sooner than the rest of you guys with the big boys.

I actually like the pregame show.

Poll on http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/

Which Canadian team will finish best this season. Canucks leading the voting with 62.5%!

Unless something ridiculous happens, I'd say that's a no-brainer. Montreal is the only other Canadian team that I'd say would make the playoffs and that's only if Price gets his shit together. The Canucks are the only team in Canada that is really strong on paper.

Toronto still sucks but improved. Ottawa lost some key pieces but gained Gonchar so I'd say they're just short of the playoffs. Edmonton will be scary in a couple years but right now, they're terrible. Calgary...well, they got Olli Jokinen!

MR_BIGGS 09-10-2010 05:49 PM

Do you guys think Price was overpaid??

cressydrift 09-10-2010 06:07 PM

^ I still can't believe they got rid of Halak.

I have a bad feeling about Chicago this year. Canucks suck against Turco! Is it going to be another elimination from the playoff's by Chicago this year?

punkwax 09-10-2010 06:36 PM

I like our chances.

Yeah we had some bad times with Turco. But hey Turco is getting older and our top 6 is getting better.

Besides the hawks lost Bfugly, the Canuck killer....

We better not get eliminated by them for the 3rd time....

RRxtar 09-10-2010 07:10 PM

Canucks beat Turco last time we saw him in the Playoffs. remember, the first game only took like 7 hours.

Anyone going to get one of these? Bonus points if you wear it to a game with an Ed Hardy t-shirt:

according to our team on paper, we're legit cup contenders this year

that's why i think the C belongs on Henrik. He's most ready for it now. I have a feeling it would be a distraction for Kesler just like it was for Luongo. Give him a few more years.
